CONCERT BAND TOUR – Phillip Island 2024

It was a windy and stormy start to our annual Concert Band Tour! The weather forecast looked grim, but we travelled cautiously south and made our way safely to Phillip Island on Monday 2nd September; 19 students, 3 staff, 1 volunteer, 1 orange bus, and a transit van full of musical instruments!

Our tour was off to a racing start on day two at the Grand Prix Go-Karting track where Soli finally made it down the straight, and Zeke Hogan Kennedy set the fastest lap time for the week, with Andrew Fraser only milliseconds behind.  We then had our first performance of the tour at San Remo Primary school where ‘Bluey’ was a hit, and we were honoured to receive a San Remo “Whoosh!”.

Day three was performance packed with concerts at both the Phillip Island Early learning centre, and Cowes Primary School before an evening at the penguin parade.

Thursday was our final day in Phillip Island (with an early morning Friday departure) and although the weather was quite windy and overcast, we gave our best performances of the week at the Phillip Island Kindergarten and then at Newhaven Primary School.

The Concert Band have been fantastic on this tour – for most of these students this is their first experience of being a travelling band and learning on the go what’s involved in the set up and pack down of performances as well as learning to adapt to new performance spaces and to respond to the needs of different audiences.  It’s been an invaluable experience and we’re so proud of these kids.
