University of Tasmania – Schools Recommendation Program

Throughout the end of Term 2 to the start of Term 3, our Year 12 students began putting in their applications for university to begin further studies in 2025. Any of our students who applied to UTAS were strongly encouraged to apply through the Schools Recommendation Program, so they had the chance to gain early entrance into university.

Well … the results of these applications were released last Wednesday, and we are happy to report that ALL Year 12s who applied were accepted into one or more of their desired courses!

This is a huge achievement for our Year 12s but also such a milestone for us to celebrate as a College with this being our first ever cohort of Year 12s.

Courses students have been selected into include Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Biomedicine, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Arts and many more.

A huge well done to these students on being rewarded for their hard work. While this is a momentous occasion, our students still have a few weeks left of the year along with their final exams to tackle and we want them to achieve their best results possible.

Keep an eye out on the upcoming editions of The Bulletin and our social media to hear more of what our Year 12s plans are as they prepare to leave the College.

Australian Defence Force Work Experience:

Students in Year 10-12 who are interested in attending the ADF Work Experience Program, please email me on sgurney@mackillop.tas.edu.au or speak with me in the Careers Office. This will take place from Thursday 31 October - Friday 1 November.

You will gain an exposure to equipment and job requirements specific to each area as well as the training that is conducted within the workplace. Opportunities will be made available for students to participate in some of the training that is offered by Army units.

Students will participate in a range of activities including unit demonstrations, team building exercises, physical training and have the opportunity to speak to Australian Defence Force full-time and part-time (Reserve) staff about a broad variety of careers, what they do and their experiences in Defence.

UTAS Open Day:

On Sunday 15 September, UTAS will be holding their Open Day at the Sandy Bay Campus. Senior students who are interested in a university pathway are encouraged to attend the event to chat with academics about their areas of interest or have a talk with the Tasmanian Recruitment Team for any general questions about university.
