SSATIS Swimming Success

Congratulations to the MacKillop Swim Team who represented the College at the SSATIS Swimming Carnival!

History was made with MacKillop taking out the Boys Aggregate Shield and Boys Junior Shield which has never been achieved in our history. Such an incredible achievement!

Additionally, the U14 and U16 boys won their respective age groups. Overall, the College finished the day second in the Co-Ed Aggregate Shield & the Co-Ed Junior Shield which is a tremendous team effort.

A big thank you to all students who participated and all staff who helped out on the day.

All weather hiking training in Outdoor Ed!

In preparation for the upcoming Three Capes camp, Year 10 Outdoor Education students hiked to Doyles Lookout at the Meehan Range.

Along the way, students were on the hunt for the Eucalyptus Risdonni, which is a rare Tasmanian endemic, restricted to the North to North West facing slopes of the Meehan Ranges on drought-prone, skeletal mudstone soils.

Check-mate at the Chess Tournament

A group of students recently travelled to the Eastern Shore School's Chess Tournament at Rosebay High. The team came in fourth place, with several students recognized for their improved playing skills. The 19 members of the B-team, represented MacKillop with pride and played very well against some tough competition. The A-Team members have the exciting opportunity to compete at a tournament in Term 4, that may put them in the running for the state championship.

Congratulations to all who participated in a great effort!

Kinder play in Child Studies

Our Year 10 Child Studies Foundation students recently travelled to the St Cuthbert's Catholic School Kinder class to run a maths task, nursery rhyme and play session with the students.

Such an exciting opportunity for our students to engage with younger students from other schools as they complete their studies.

Nailed the brief in making and Design!

Year 10 students Sam Shelton and Max Lamberti have been busy in their Making and Design (wood) class, creating a wooden briefcase to help carry their  belongings. Their hand crafted items have been spotted amongst the College grounds as they head between classes.

Check out their awesome creations below!

Meehan Range Hiking

Year 10 Outdoor Education students hiking on the strenuous walking tracks of the Meehan Ranges.

Students placed rocks inside their hiking backpacks to increase their strength and endurance in preparation for the Three Capes Camp.

Dungeons and Dragons

Our Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Club meets every Thursday after school, offering an exciting and creative space for students to dive into imaginative worlds. D&D is a tabletop-roleplaying game where players take on the roles of characters they make, and explore a world and story. You may have seen the game played in media, such as Stranger Things or The Big Bang Theory. With over 30 members across four groups, each session is filled with unique adventures that blend strategy, storytelling, and teamwork.

Players collaborate to overcome challenges, create stories, and bring their characters to life. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or a complete beginner, there’s a place for everyone to explore their creativity and make new friends. Guided by the experienced hands of Mr. Cooke, Miss Adams, and Mr. Gobbey, our groups are thriving, and each week is filled with fun, laughter, and epic tales.

Year 9 Exams

It's been a very busy week in the Junior School as our Year 9 students sat their first exams.   It was great to witness their organisation and concentration as they arrived ready to go and got down to the task at hand.  This important experience has been an eye opener for the group, many of whom surprised themselves at their ability to sit still and focus for such a sustained period of time.  I congratulate them on their efforts this week and the mature way they approached this new experience.  Senior School is just around the corner and they now have more tools in their kit to prepare them.  Well done Year 9.

Arrangements are being made to accommodate those students that were ill and away from school during exams.
