Kitchen Garden

Grow, Harvest, Prepare, Share

Weeks 3 & 4 in the Kitchen Garden.

Spring is on its way.

Spring is 18 days away, however the recent cold mornings make it seem a lot further away.

We have been working super hard to get some Spring planting done.  Our hothouse is home to our potted up seeds that grow in a warmer environment than outside. So we have planted up zucchinis, corn, kale and silverbeet. We look forward to planting them up in our garden beds next month.

Suggested Spring Planting

Its a great time to start to plan for early Spring planting.  Maybe consider planting these seeds..........

Asian Greens

Beetroot

Capsicum

Corn

Strawberries

Tomato

Some cold hardy tomato varieties include Stupice, Tommy Toe, Grosse Lisse & Jaune Flamme.

Its also been a great time to propagate new grasses from our native bush area.  Our students dug up and replanted new grasses to use in other areas of our school.

A big thanks to our amazing Ed who was put together our new garden blackboard.  Keep an eye out for all the garden happenings and news.

Some recent exciting news, Waddles, Tux, Sunny & Milo our ducks are laying eggs.

These delicious eggs have been a great addition to our baked cakes.

Animal of the Week......

We wanted to introduce our animal of the week.  It came down to three of our most popular furry friends, Coco the rabbit, Mystery our multicoloured guinea pig and Galaxy the guinea pig.  After a group discussion and vote.........

Mystery the guinea pig got the majority of the  votes. Mysterys healthy appetite and squicky chats one us over.

We are also looking for parent helpers to assist in kitchen or garden.  Parents from prep to 4s are happy to contact us to assist.
