The Year 1 and 2 students have been working hard during Writing lessons as they build their understanding of how to correctly write and punctuate sentences. Students have been learning how to identify a run-on sentence, separate ideas into individual sentences and correctly punctuate their writing using capital letters and end marks. They have enjoyed practising these skills in a variety of engaging ways, including shared writing activities using markers and large sheets of paper, writing on mini whiteboards and applying their learning independently in their books. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as writers and proudly sharing their work with others.

In our Social and Emotional Learning lessons, we have been learning to recognise and understand our emotions, and how different experiences can make us feel different ways. We have also explored the idea of ‘perspective’, which means the way we see and understand things. We know that our perspectives may sometimes be different from those of our peers, and that our differences are what make each of us unique and special individuals.
We have been practising mindful meditation and reflecting on how our emotions and feelings change before and after each session. We agreed that meditation often helps us feel calm, settled and sometimes even a little tired. We like to describe our emotions as our ‘internal weather’. Sometimes we feel calm and peaceful, like sunshine on a still day, while other times we may feel busy and energetic like the wind. We enjoyed reflecting on the experiences that can change our internal weather, and sharing our thoughts and ideas.
