Basketball Grand Finals
With the grand final bringing the season to a close, each and every College team fought hard until the final buzzer. Everyone in the College basketball family showed great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship, both towards teammates and those they may not have known well before the season.
Every team should be proud of what they achieved, and a big thank you goes to our parents for getting students to games and training, and for supporting our younger players as they continued to develop their skills.
It was an enjoyable season, and we look forward to seeing what next season of basketball brings.
Here are the results:
U14B Girls – Snowy Owls
The girls had an incredible fight this week heading into the grand final against Minders Blue, and they brought home the win, 31–13. The girls put in a great effort, and they should be proud of their season. Players of the game were Henrietta Patterson, who put up 10 points, and Pippa Quinn, who shot 15 points; both were key shooters and drivers to the basket, making each shot count for their team. Well done, girls; you should be beyond proud of this season, and I hope you will continue to grow as a team and as players next season. Well done, girls.
U12B Girls – Sooty Owls
This week, the girls went head-to-head against Saint Mary’s Black in an exceptional win, 21–6. The girls put up a great fight and didn’t stop until the final buzzer went off. Player of the game was Hazel Johns, putting up 10 points and being someone who wasn’t afraid to get in there, have a hard crack, and never give up. The girls should be proud of their efforts and their season this year, so well done again to you girls.
U16B Boys – Barking Owls
This week the boys went up against Barber Boys Black in the grand final and unfortunately fell short by three unlucky points. The boys didn’t leave the court until the fight was over, proving they are a strong team and deserved a spot in the grand final. Player of the day was Angus Smith, putting up nine points, helping his team, and sharing the ball around to everyone on the team. Everyone who participated should be so proud of their efforts and shouldn’t let this get down on them.
Div 4 Men – Boobook Owls
This week, the boys headed into their grand final, going up against Tigers Yellow in a very tight and close match the whole way through. Unfortunately, the boys went down by three points, 27–24. This was still an amazing effort by the boys, and they should be proud of how far they have come.
Sam O’Sullivan was player of the day, putting up 12 points. Playing as a team, they moved the ball around and took their time down the court.
Big congratulations to Sam O’Sullivan on winning match MVP and Division 4 season M; it's well deserved, as Sam had an incredible game with a friendly fight for the ball. Well done this season, boys; you have made your coach, Andrew, proud, as well as the whole team.
Div 2 Women – Snowy Owls
A Massive season for the girls, making it this far in the grand final and bringing home the win against Monivae in a 12-point win, 46 – 34. This was a great effort by the girls, showing they really wanted the win and bringing grit and determination throughout the team. Player of the day was Saskia Gould, who put up 22 points and was a key shooter in the game. A special mention during presentations: Saskia Gould was also awarded MVP of the game. Well done, Sas, on a great season and well done to all the girls for a great season.
With the season coming to an end, the college teams that participated in finals have made the college family proud and should be proud of their efforts this season. Well done to everyone who took part in this basketball season, and a big thanks to all the helpers and volunteers who make this work every season.
