The Next Chapter

Claudia Johnson

Assistant Principal - Engagement & Wellbeing

To thank our parent and carer community for their support, and to celebrate the completion of recent library renovations made possible through community donations, we recently hosted a special literary event.

Featuring acclaimed authors Shaun Tan, Brendan James Murray and Sally Rippin, in conversation with Curriculum Leader Shalini Akhil, the panel explored the power of imagination, storytelling and libraries in shaping young lives. We held the opening for our newly refurbished library on Wednesday 3 September where we celebrated the renovations and promoted the next stage in our library plans. This involves more new shelving units, acoustic paneling to sound-treat the library, and of course, more books!

Parents, carers and staff enjoyed a fascinating panel discussion, discussing the importance of the knowledgeable and welcoming librarian, the challenge for parents with the distraction of social media and technology, the impact of inclusive stories that shape our lives and experiences and how libraries and reading power imagination. Feedback from staff and parents was – keep going! We didn't want the insightful, inspiring and funny discussion to end. We will host more events in our library in future to take advantage of this beautiful new space.

Thank you to Shaun, Brendan and Sally for donating their time, our own Shalini Akhil for MCing the panel and our Parents Association for supplying and serving a delicious supper. It was a sensational evening!
