Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

This past fortnight our students have had the opportunity to attend the Try A Trade Day in Wagga Wagga, had a visit from Hannah and Hayley from the Australian Defence Force Team, as well as students undertaking White Card SafeWork Training. See below for more details of each event.  

Year 12 Careers Transition Interviews

As Year 12 come to the final few weeks of school before they sit their examinations, I would like to continue to encourage students to ensure they seek out support from careers to work on their post school plans. Students are also welcome to come in next term when they have completed their exams to go through their employment portfolios, seek assistance with job applications or scholarship and university applications. 

Our aim is for students to feel confident in their post school planning and seek guidance on the various pathway options open to students as they transition to post-school life. 

Australian Defence Force Visit 

On Wednesday 26th August, our Year 10 cohort were fortunate to have a visit from Hayley and Hannah from the ADF Recruitment and Careers Team. Firstly, students completed a fitness session conducted with the assistance of our PE Teachers, to see firsthand the sort of fitness levels required for entry into the ADF, which many of our students showed amazingly high levels of fitness due to their passion for sport. 

Then students attended an information session where Hayley and Hannah went through all the many careers on offer with the ADF and various entry pathways into the ADF, such as; reserve programs, gap years and general entry, officer entry, Indigenous programs, and assistance with tertiary study.

Try a Trade Day Excursion 

27th August 2026

On Thursday 27th August, our Year 10 cohort had the opportunity to attend the Try A Trade Day in Wagga Wagga. This excursion allowed students to explore all the trades-based careers at the Try a Trade Day Expo held at the Range Function Centre in Wagga. At this event, many employers across the Riverina were in attendance with hands on displays and information on all thing’s trades. Along with interactive displays of the many vocational training courses from TAFE and other Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s). 

This was a fantastic showcase of the many careers available through the V.E.T sector and included; hospitality, nursing, early childhood education, hairdressing, beauty, electrical, construction, mechanical, renewables trades, as well as many more. Students were able to ask questions from industry experts about specific careers, training requirements and suggested subjects that suit the industries, ask about work experience, apprenticeships and traineeships on offer as well as look at the extensive list of jobs currently available in the Riverina on the jobs wall.

We thank our RIEP officer Stacey Suidgeest who coordinates this event each year for the whole of the Riverina. 

Safework White Card Construction Safety

Virtual - held 2nd & 3rd September 

Last week we held our latest round of SAFEWORK White Card Construction Safety training for students in the school library. Students all fully engaged in the important content and focussed on learning how to identify hazards in the workplace, manage the risk of hazards, how to wear PPE, and all about interpreting safety signage and legislation. 

All students successfully completed the requirements of the course and can collect their Certificates from the careers office. We hope this training empowers students to feel more confident to work and feel safe on jobsites and to speak up if they ever feel unsafe. The SafeWork licence card will come out to students in the mail in the next 4-6 weeks.

Career and Job Oppotunities

2027 - 2028 Djinggi SBAT Program

Expressions of Interest are now open for the 2027-2028 Djinggi SBAT Program with DET as an SLSO.

Djinggi is open to all Year 10 students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Student should come and speak to Mrs Ing in the careers office for further information. 

The Djinggi Expression of Interest Application deadline is at 11:59pm Friday 25th September 2026.
