Before & After School Care

Week 1- Welcome Back, Little Explorers!

Welcome back to all our children and families at Lalor East Primary School! It has been lovely to reconnect after the holidays and begin Term 4 together.

Exploring Space Week!

This week, our before and after school care sessions explored Space Week through meaningful experiences that encouraged creativity, curiosity and learning.

• Designing and building spaceships using recycled materials

• Completing space word searches

• Creating planets with clay

• Learning about the planets in our solar system

Children shared ideas, solved problems and worked together as they explored our space theme

Our Space, Shaped by Children

Children also helped refresh our environment after the holiday program by taking part in cleaning, decorating and rearranging our service. They shared thoughtful suggestions about how to make our space more welcoming and enjoyable. Their contributions are helping shape an environment where they feel comfortable, included and a sense of belonging. Thank you for a wonderful first week! We look forward to a term filled with discovery, creativity and fun.

Week 2 - Healthy food & happy play!

Fresh flavours & healthy choices

This week, children explored nutritious food through hands-on experiences in before and after school care. We prepared vegetable, salad and cheese wraps and made sushi for afternoon tea. Group conversations helped children share ideas about food groups, variety and foods to enjoy every day or occasionally, building confidence to make healthy choices.

Guess the Fruit & caterpillar discoveries

Our exciting “Guess the Fruit” game invited children to close their eyes and identify a mystery fruit, exploring flavours and sharing their guesses. The Hungry Caterpillar puzzle extended this learning as children worked together, named the foods the caterpillar ate and discussed which foods help our bodies grow and stay well.

Creative minds & friendly challenges

Galaxy slime sparked curiosity as children mixed, stretched and explored colourful textures. Uno, Spot It! and Connect Four encouraged turn-taking, concentration, problem-solving and friendly interactions.

Moving together in the gym

Active afternoons included our favourite Octopus and Fruit Salad games, a soccer tournament and downball. Children practised coordination, teamwork and fair play while enjoying movement with friends

Reminders:

Lalor East TheirCare also follows Sun Smart and as of 1 September, we encourage children when going outside to place suncream and sunhats.

Please make sure your child have a hat in their bag for when attending our session.

If your child requires special sunscreen please let the staff know, as we only carry 50+ homebrand.

Parents are required to get their child/ren warmer jackets as we encourage and support indoor/outdoor play.

It would be amazing to have families share any recipes with us as we are starting with our Cooking club as of next week
