Major Trip for Clontarf

Townsville and Magnetic Island

Our journey began bright and early in Kempsey as we jumped on our bus and headed to Coffs Harbour to pick up the Orara Academy lads before making our way to Brisbane to catch our flight to Townsville. Upon arrival in Townsville, we walked The Strand to get our bearings and find a place for dinner. We enjoyed stunning views from Castle Hill Lookout at sunset, immersed ourselves in the local culture, and spent an afternoon chasing waterfalls. We were fortunate enough to attend a North Queensland Cowboys training session, followed by a walk through their Centre of Excellence. The boys gained valuable insights into the daily life of an NRL player.

During one of our days on the mainland, we visited Orica for a partners visit, where we listened to Luke outline employment opportunities and what to expect if a career in the mining industry is a realistic option for the lads. The boys who presented the PowerPoint to Orica did an amazing job; they explained various industries, highlighted what each town is known for, and shared the pillars of the Clontarf Foundation and what it means to them.

Next up was Magnetic Island, a true gem of the Great Barrier Reef.  We caught the ferry over and were instantly in awe of its beauty! From hiking the scenic Fort Walk (in sweltering heat) to spotting koalas, this island is full of surprises, even Cane Toad racing!

The crystal-clear waters were perfect for photos, offering some of the most breath taking views we  have ever seen. We booked a fishing charter with a local legend, Cliffy, and spent the day fishing the reefs and snorkelling at local spots such as Alma Bay and Arthur Bay. The boys benefitted from Cliff's local knowledge of fishing hot spots and were reeling in fish like pros.

In short, it was an adventure the boys will never forget. From nature hikes to beach days and everything in between, Townsville and Magnetic Island offer the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and unforgettable memories.
