Grade 6 News

Our Grade 6 students have officially entered their final semester of primary school! There is a wonderful mix of excitement, anticipation and a few nerves as students begin to look ahead to their high school journeys. With high school placements now confirmed, students are starting to picture what this next chapter will look like while continuing to make the most of their time at primary school.

There are still many memories to create, challenges to embrace and opportunities to enjoy as we make the most of our final semester in Grade 6.

Reading

In Reading, we have been learning about World War II, discovering and remembering the sacrifices of those who fought during the war. While practising our reading comprehension and analytical thinking skills, we have explored wartime stories and the experiences of people who lived through this significant period in history. Students have identified and examined literary devices to understand what makes a text engaging, meaningful, and impactful for its audience.

Maths

In Maths, we are learning all things fractions, decimals and percentages! We have been exploring how these three forms of numbers are connected, discovering that fractions can be converted into decimals and percentages to represent the same value in different ways. Students are learning that understanding these connections help them solve everyday problems, from comparing prices and discounts to interpreting data and making informed decisions.

Science

This term in Science, students are exploring the exciting world of light, colour and electricity. We began the unit by investigating how light travels and how shadows are formed. Students designed and created their own foil objects to block a light source and observed the different shadows they produced. We made hypotheses, tested ideas and discussed our findings using scientific language. As the term progresses, students will continue investigating electricity through a range of hands on experiments and investigations. To prepare for our transition to high school, we are also learning to record our observations and present our findings as a scientific report.

Sport

At the end of last term, we celebrated the success of many of our school sports teams as they progressed through to finals. After some hard-fought games, our PPS Girls and Boys T-Ball, Mixed Netball and Girls Soccer teams all earned their place in the Darebin Division Finals.

On Monday, our mixed netball team competed in a round-robin tournament, where they showcased great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. They finished fourth overall, a fantastic achievement against some strong competition.

Yesterday, our boys and girls T-Ball teams took to the field for their final. After some impressive performances, excellent teamwork and plenty of enthusiasm, our girls team walked away runners up and boys team champions! We are incredibly proud of their efforts.

We now wish our girls soccer team the very best of luck as they play their final today. We are so proud of all our students for representing PPS with such commitment and resilience.
