Grade 3 and 4
Term 3 2026
We are now more than halfway through Term 3, and it has been a busy and rewarding term filled with exciting learning experiences and activities. Our students have embraced each opportunity with enthusiasm, curiosity and a positive attitude, and it has been wonderful to see their growth and confidence throughout the term.
With plenty still to look forward to, we are especially excited about our upcoming swimming program and Footy Day, which will provide students with opportunities to develop their water safety skills, build confidence, enjoy being active and celebrate their love of sport. We look forward to finishing Term 3 with plenty of fun, learning and memorable experiences for our students and school community.
Principal's Day
We had a wonderful time celebrating Principal’s Day and recognising the incredible work of Mr Webber. It was a lovely opportunity for our school community to show our appreciation for his kindness, dedication and unwavering support of our students and staff. Mr Webber is an incredibly caring and positive leader who always goes above and beyond to make our school a welcoming and happy place. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful principal leading our school community.

Year 4 - Warrandyte High School
Our Year 4 students had a wonderful opportunity to visit Warrandyte High School and experience what learning in a secondary school is like. We were warmly welcomed by several former ACPS students, who greeted us and were excited to see our Year 4 students. Students participated in both a Music class and a Physical Education class, enthusiastically engaging in a range of activities and learning experiences. It was fantastic to see the students enjoying themselves, trying new things and building their confidence. The visit was a great experience for everyone and provided an exciting glimpse into their future secondary school journey.
Book Week
On Friday, students celebrated Book Week with a fun-filled day of reading, creativity and hands-on activities. Throughout the day, students took part in four different activities that encouraged a love of books and celebrated the joy of reading.
Our teachers also got into the spirit of Book Week by dressing up as the colourful crayons from The Day the Crayons Quit. It was a wonderful day filled with imagination, laughter and plenty of opportunities for students to celebrate their favourite books and characters.
Inquiry - Scienceworks
This semester, students are exploring an exciting Science and Design Technologies unit focused on forces, heat energy and how products are designed to solve real-world problems. On Wednesday, students enjoyed a visit to Scienceworks, where they had the opportunity to engage with interactive exhibits and extend their understanding of scientific concepts through hands-on experiences.
Back in the classroom, students are investigating how forces such as friction, gravity and magnetism affect the movement of objects, as well as exploring how heat is transferred between materials. They are also examining how the design and features of products influence their function. Students will apply their scientific knowledge, creativity and problem-solving skills to design, create and evaluate their own solutions to a real-world design challenge.
English
This term students are learning to create and understand procedural texts, with a focus on sequencing events and presenting clear, logical instructions. Students are developing their ability to use precise language, time connectives and appropriate text structures to explain how to complete a task. They are also focusing on choosing specific vocabulary and organising ideas in a logical order so that their procedures are clear and easy for others to follow.
The Year 3 and 4 students have been enjoying our class novel, Escape from Mr Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein. We are reading approximately one chapter each day, building our reading fluency and developing confidence in reading aloud with expression, accuracy and appropriate pace.
Along the way, students are learning new vocabulary from the text and exploring the meaning of unfamiliar words in context. The novel’s puzzles, mystery and adventure are also encouraging students to make predictions, think critically and discuss the characters, events and themes. It has been wonderful to see students becoming increasingly engaged with the story while developing their reading skills and expanding their vocabulary.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students are developing their understanding of money through practical, real-life learning experiences aligned with aspects of the Victorian Curriculum. Students are learning to recognise, count and represent Australian money, calculate amounts and change, and apply their mathematical thinking to everyday situations.
As part of our classroom economy, students have designed and created their own money boxes or wallets and are earning money for demonstrating positive behaviours, effort and responsibility. They are then using their earnings to save for and purchase a range of classroom privileges. This engaging approach is helping students build their confidence with financial mathematics while developing important skills in budgeting, saving, decision-making and problem-solving. It has been wonderful to see students enthusiastically applying their mathematical learning to meaningful, real-world situations.
