Student Wellbeing and Engagement

It has been wonderful to see students so far this term getting involved in a variety of activities, connecting with their peers and engaging in opportunities that promote healthy relationships, cultural identity and positive wellbeing. Here is a snapshot of what has been happening across the College.
Year 10 Love Bites - Educational Program
The Year 10 students recently participated in the Love Bites educational program, designed to support their knowledge and skills in building healthy and respectful relationships. Throughout the program, students participated in a range of activities that encouraged them to think critically, engage in discussions, ask questions and make informed decisions about respect, consent and positive relationships. It was great to see students engaging with the activities across the cohort and asking thoughtful and appropriate questions linked to the information presented.
Friendship Day - Monday 3rd August
On Monday 3 August, students across the College participated in activities to celebrate and strengthen the friendships they have made at ECSC. Students were able to spend time with their friends while making friendship bracelets and enjoying each other's company. There was also plenty of fun to be had at the Friendship Day photo booth, where students could dress up, take photos and create some great memories together.
Breakfast Club
A small reminder that Breakfast Club is running this term every Tuesday and Friday morning from 8:15 am. Students are welcome to join the Wellbeing and Engagement team for some cheese toasties, cereal, snacks and hot chocolate. We look forward to seeing you there!
Le Mana Pasifika Program - Mana Ake
This term, our Māori and Pasifika students have had the opportunity to participate in the Le Mana Pasifika Program - Mana Ake. The program aims to strengthen cultural identity, wellbeing and connection through cultural identity activities, social and emotional learning exercises, and leadership and strengths-based activities. The program has a couple more weeks to go, and we look forward to sharing the experiences and feedback from our students once it has concluded.
Active Schools Incursion - Girls Forum
Active Schools is a government initiative that promotes physical activity as an integral part of the curriculum and everyday school life. The school has been provided a $14,000 grant to enhance physical activity at our school. We have decided that we would like to focus on female participation in physical activity as we tend to see a drop off in engagement during years 9 and 10 for females.
For our first step of this initiative, we needed to run a ‘girls only forum’ with the current year 8 girls to gain insights into the barriers the girls are facing in relation to being active, changes that could be made and the types of programs they may like to participate in.
Upcoming Events
The Wellbeing and Engagement team is currently looking forward to and planning for several upcoming events, including Wear It Purple Day and R U OK? Day. Students are encouraged to keep an eye on the Google Noticeboards for further information and upcoming announcements about these events.
It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and engagement of our students throughout these activities. The Wellbeing and Engagement team looks forward to continuing to provide opportunities that support connection, belonging and positive wellbeing across our College community.
Thank you,
Belinda McKenzie
