Rob Moore has joined Edgars Creek Secondary College as our Careers & Pathways Leading Teacher! As well as teaching, Rob will be available for careers advice, job seeking advice, course applications, and any other Careers & Pathways support you might need.

Past Events

VCE Information Night & Subject Expo

15 July

In preparation for their VCE program & subject selections, ECSC hosted a VCE Information Night and Subject Expo for our Year 10 students and families. The evening was a huge success with stalls and speakers from our own ECSC program and subject leaders, subject teachers and, for the first time, University and TAFE representatives.

Next year, we plan on making the event even bigger and better with even more University & TAFE representatives, more interactive stalls and targeted presentations. Though the event is primarily for Year 10’s, all students and families are welcome to attend, so keep an eye out for 2027!

Year 11 Melbourne Careers Expo

17 July

In week 1 our Year 11 students attended the 2026 Melbourne Career Expo at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Students spent the morning speaking to Universities, TAFES, Apprenticeship & Traineeship providers and employers and were encouraged to gather information and make contacts with providers and employers of interest.

There were hands-on demonstrations and robust conversations happening at every turn with our students leaving the event with not only bags of goodies, but invaluable knowledge and experiences they can reflect on and help guide them throughout the remainder of their VCE and in their future career planning.

Year 10 Swinburne Excursion

20 July

Our Year 10 students were given the opportunity to get a feel for tertiary study and explore a real-life tertiary campus at Swinburne University. Students had the option of participating in a University-focused event at the Hawthorn Campus or a Trades-based event at the Wantirna campus and all students got to meet student mentors, tertiary academics and participate in 2x hands-on workshops in areas such as:

AI & Web Development
Animation
Aviation
Bricklaying
Electrotechnology
Engineering
Film & TV
Health Sciences
Law

This was a great opportunity for students to put their research to the test and see what their study options really look like.

Year 10 Course Selection Day

22 July

One of the biggest decisions our students make is what their VCE program will look like. At Edgars Creek we offer the VCE certificate in both the general stream and the Vocational Major over 2 years; years 11 and 12. With this qualification, students can leave secondary school to a number of different pathways including University, TAFE, Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Employment.

On Wednesday 22nd July, after many weeks of investigation and discussion, Course Selection Day was held at Edgars Creek where students finalised and submitted their VCE program selections. These selections will be reviewed and used to construct timetables for 2027 throughout the remainder of Term 3 with students set to receive their confirmed program & subject enrolments in Term 4.

Upcoming Events

Kangan Future Options - Broadmeadows

4 September

Our Year 9 students have again been invited to attend the Kangan Future Option event in Broadmeadows this year. Future Options allow students to explore a range of different career areas through interactive workshops and activities led by Kangan Educators in areas such asTrades, Foods, Sciences, Child & Animal Care, and Health & Nursing.

Students have been invited to submit their expression of interest online and have now been added to the Compass event. If you haven’t already, please check Compass for any outstanding consents, this event is free to attend.

ADF Careers Expo - Puckapunyal Military Base

11 September

Students from Years 9 to 12 have been invited to attend the Puckapunyal Military Base for their ADF Careers Expo. Students will be able to speak to currently enlisted ADF members and discuss their experiences and lifestyle as well as explore the multitude of career opportunities and pathways available through the ADF. Students will also get an up-close look at a range of ADF vehicles and artillery, take part in Personal Training sessions and, for a lucky few, take a ride in an Army Vehicle or two.

Reminders

Year 12 VTAC Applications

VTAC applications are the biggest and busiest time of year on the Careers & Pathways calendar. Careers & Pathways supports all our Year 12 students in their post-school pathways and transitions, and while there are many different application methods and pathway options available, the vast majority of students will be utilising VTAC.

VTAC works to very strict deadlines, these have been communicated with all students via briefing presentations and noticeboard posts. See below for a summary of upcoming deadlines and important dates.

As you can see, VTAC is now open for registration and applications. Students who intend to utilise VTAC should register their account, submit a preliminary course application and pay the application fee before September 28 to avoid late fees.

Students who intend to apply for Equity and/or Scholarships will need to submit their applications, including all required evidence, by October 9. Careers & Pathways are offering appointments exclusively to Year 12 students during Term 3 to support.

Tertiary Early Entry Programs

There are a number of tertiary early entry programs and schemes available to Year 12 students where they may secure an early conditional offer for their tertiary studies based on students experiences, community contributions, values and goals. Many of these are still open for applications but are closing soon, interested students should revisit the Noticeboard for information and application links.

Other Year 12 Applications

Not all students will be utilising VTAC for their post-school applications, but we are supporting these students as well.

For students intending to submit direct applications to tertiary institutions - Careers & Pathways is available to assist students in making these applications. Students are welcome to book an appointment with Rob or walk-in for this support.

For those students seeking employment, apprenticeship or traineeships - We have invited the Skills & Jobs Centre to attend the college later this term to present to and support students. Skills & Jobs Centres are government funded and located in multiple locations around Victoria. Their services are free to access and offer general career advice & counselling services as well as one-on-one advice and support for job, apprenticeship & traineeship seeking. Dates and times are soon to be confirmed and will be communicated to students shortly.

Careers & Pathways Bookings

For the remainder of Term 3, Careers & Pathways will be available for bookings exclusively with Year 12 students while we work towards VTAC’s Equity & Scholarship deadline. In the meantime, we are still available for walk-ins during recess, lunchtime and afterschool. Appointments will be open again for all year levels next term.
