Principal's Report

As this newsletter goes to publication, we are just past the halfway point of Term 3. It has already been a busy and rewarding term, with our students and staff continuing to demonstrate their commitment to learning, improvement, and our broader College community.

NAPLAN

Our 2026 NAPLAN results provide another opportunity to recognise the effort and dedication of our students and staff and our continued focus on student growth and improvement.

This year, more than 50 of our Year 9 students have received recognition for their achievement, either through significant learning growth or by achieving results within the Strong or Exceeding proficiency levels. This is an achievement of which these students, their families and their teachers should be very proud.

While NAPLAN represents one measure of student achievement at a particular point in time, the results provide valuable information alongside the many other forms of assessment our teachers use throughout the year. Importantly, the data helps us identify areas of strength, monitor student growth and ensure our curriculum and teaching are appropriately targeted to meet the learning needs of our students.

Further into this newsletter, Taryn's Teaching and Learning Report includes a detailed infographic highlighting our students' results and the progress we continue to make as a College.

Year 12 – Completing Unit 4 and Preparing for Exams

Our Year 12 students are rapidly approaching an important milestone as they complete their final school-assessed coursework and begin preparing for the examination period commencing on 27 October.

Our teachers are carefully planning a focused period of revision and exam preparation to support students through these final weeks. This is an important time, and I encourage every Year 12 student to make the most of the advice, feedback and support available from their teachers.

Effective exam preparation requires consistent revision of the knowledge and skills developed throughout the year, together with regular practice under timed conditions. Establishing a consistent study routine of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours each evening will support students to consolidate their learning and approach their final assessments with confidence.

To our Year 12 students: you are entering the final stage of your secondary schooling. Stay focused, use the support around you and continue to put in the consistent effort that has brought you this far.

Parent Opinion Survey

The 2026 Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey is now open, and I encourage all families who have been invited to participate to set aside approximately 20 minutes to provide us with their feedback.

Your feedback is extremely valuable. It helps us identify opportunities for further improvement while also providing important insight into the areas in which our work is meeting the expectations and needs of our students, families and community.

2026 College Production – Aladdin

Excitement is continuing to build ahead of our upcoming performances of Aladdin. Our students and staff have been working incredibly hard throughout rehearsals, bringing together the many elements required to stage a major College production.

Tickets have now sold out, which is a wonderful reflection of the support of our school community. I am confident that those attending will thoroughly enjoy our students' interpretation of this much-loved Disney production.

Congratulations to our cast, crew and staff for the commitment, creativity and energy they have brought to the production. I look forward to joining our community in celebrating their work when the curtain rises on opening night.

Acting Principal Arrangements

From 31 August until 25 September, I will be on secondment to the Department's regional office, where I will undertake the role of Acting Senior Education Improvement Leader. During this period, Phil Adams will serve as Acting Principal of Edgars Creek Secondary College. I would like to thank Phil for stepping into the role and for providing continuity of leadership for our students, staff and community during my absence.

I will return to Edgars Creek during the second week of the term break and look forward to reconnecting with our community ahead of Term 4.

As we move through the remainder of Term 3, thank you to our students, staff, parents and carers for your continued support of the College. There is much to celebrate, and I look forward to sharing more of our students' achievements and experiences over the coming weeks.
