Principal's Report

As Term 2 draws to a close, I reflect on what has truly been another great month at LHC. June has been full of learning, growth, and memorable moments for our students and staff alike.
Big Freeze MND Fundraiser
On Monday 1st June, our Year 11 VCE VM students hosted a fantastic fundraiser in support of FightMND. The event was a great success, with students and staff coming together to support an important cause while enjoying homemade cookies, a sausage sizzle, and the ever-popular dunk tank.
There was plenty of excitement as students tested their aim in an attempt to dunk a number of willing staff members — including myself! The enthusiasm and support shown by our school community was amazing.
Congratulations to our Year 11 VCE VM students for their hard work in organising the event and thank you to everyone who donated, participated, or purchased items to support the fundraiser. Your generosity will help make a positive difference in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease.
Weekly Spotlight Initiative
This month we began a Weekly Spotlight Initiative as a focus for our community. Weekly Spotlights are designed to highlight key aspects of student learning, wellbeing, and school culture. While these areas are important every day, a Weekly Spotlight provides an opportunity for us to place additional attention on a particular focus, build understanding, and reinforce the expectations that contribute to a positive and successful school environment.
For the month of June, we have been focusing on the below areas as part of our Weekly Spotlight initiative:
For the first week of term, our focus will be on: Prepared to Learn. The start of a new term is a fresh opportunity — a chance to reset, refocus, and recommit to making the most of every learning experience at Lilydale Heights College.
Being prepared to learn is one of the most important things a student can do. It shows respect for yourself, your teachers, and your classmates, and it sets you up for success from the very first lesson of the day.
ResourceSmart School Awards – Winners!
We are thrilled to share some outstanding news from the 2026 ResourceSmart Schools Awards. After being named finalists in two categories, Lilydale Heights College was successful in winning both the Student Action Team of the Year Award and the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) Vic Excellence Award.
These awards are a wonderful recognition of the passion, commitment, and leadership shown by our Sustainability Team, as well as the many students and staff who contribute to sustainability initiatives across the College each day.
I would like to congratulate our Student Sustainability Team, Ms Lim and Ms Sargeant, for their dedication and leadership in this area. These awards reflect the strong culture of sustainability that exists at Lilydale Heights College and our commitment to making a positive difference for our environment and community.
A Celebration of Music at LHC
This month, I had the pleasure of attending two wonderful music events that showcased the talent, dedication, and passion of our music students.
On Tuesday 9 June, our VCE Music students performed at the VCE Music Soiree, presenting a diverse range of pieces that highlighted their individual talents and the hard work they have invested in their studies. The evening provided students with a valuable performance opportunity and was enjoyed by families, staff, and students.
On Thursday 11 June, we held our Mid-Year Music Showcase at The Memo in Healesville, which featured performances from students across a range of year levels and ensembles. The showcase demonstrated the depth of musical talent at Lilydale Heights College and reflected the strong culture of music that continues to grow within our school community.
I would like to congratulate all students who performed across both events. Performing in front of an audience takes courage, preparation, and commitment, and our students represented themselves and the College exceptionally well. Thank you also to our Music staff for their dedication in supporting students and creating these opportunities for them to develop and share their talents.
Year 9, 10, 11 Exams & GAT
We are incredibly proud of our Year 9, Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 students who completed their exams and the GAT this month. It has been wonderful to see so many students approach their exams with focus and a commitment to doing their best. Congratulations.
Art & Creative Practice
Last week the Principal Team were invited to attend the Year 12 Art and Creative Practice class to provide feedback on our Year 12 students art process and work. Students presented their Focus Statements, shared the inspiration behind their work, and walked us through their experiments, trials, and thinking as they consider their next steps. The class was then able to provide both verbal and written feedback and ask any clarifying questions. It was wonderful to hear all the different ideas from the students and see their thinking and experiments translate into art. What a talented group of people! Thank you for inviting us to be part of this process.
Central Australia Tour
Our Central Australia Tour is currently travelling for 12 days to a range of places across South Australia and the Northern Territory. Some of these places include: Renmark, Wilpena Pound, Flinders Ranges National Park, Bridle Gap, Port Augusta, Coober Pedy, Alice Springs, Simpsons Gap, Kings Canyon, Uluru-kata Tjuta National Park, Valley of the Winds and Watarrka National Park. From all accounts, they are having a wonderful time. You can keep up with their travels via our social media pages.
Year 12 Social
Last Friday night, our Year 12 students came together for their final Year 12 Social! This was a wonderful opportunity for students to relax, celebrate, and enjoy a special evening with their friends, peers and staff. Events like these are such an important part of the school journey, creating lasting memories for our students. It was wonderful to see our Year 12’s making the most of a memorable night.
