Stage 2 News 

Year 3

Over the past five weeks, Year 3 students have been immersed in learning about the incredible Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre through the mentor text Desert Lake. Students developed a deep understanding of how the lake system works, the unique desert environment and the fascinating animals and plants that survive in this harsh yet beautiful landscape.

Throughout the unit, students explored informative texts, built their vocabulary and strengthened their research and report writing skills. They worked hard to plan, draft, edit and publish detailed information reports using digital technologies, learning how to effectively present their work for an audience.

To complement their learning, students also created stunning artwork inspired by the colours, textures and wildlife of the desert environment. Their creativity and enthusiasm have been wonderful to see throughout the unit.

Year 3 should be very proud of their effort, curiosity and the high-quality work they have produced during this engaging learning experience.

Year 4

Students in 4E and 4P have been making meaningful connections between literacy and the creative arts through our class novel study of The Thing About Oliver by Deborah Kelly.

 Inspired by the vivid descriptions of the Great Barrier Reef environment featured in the text, students explored the beauty and diversity of marine life through visual art. Using perspective drawing techniques, students created stunning aquarium artworks that showcased depth, colour and imagination while reflecting the underwater world explored in the novel. We are so proud of the creativity and effort students demonstrated in bringing the Great Barrier Reef to life through their artwork!
