English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D)

As part of their study of the text 'Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief', our Year 6 students have been developing their letter-writing skills, with a focus on the structure and language features of an effective letter. They have explored how to organise their writing using an orientation, a clear series of events, and a thoughtful conclusion.
Students also engaged in the deconstruction of a sample letter to identify key features and understand how effective writing is structured (see image below).
Through guided lessons led by the EAL/D teacher, students have participated in joint construction of different parts of a letter, contributing ideas and planning their writing as a class. Rich discussions have supported students to use first-person voice, apply connectives to create cohesive texts, and experiment with descriptive and figurative language.
