English

We have revisited our study of the use of persuasive devices and different types of persuasive writing. We have investigated persuasion through picture story books, posters, poems and even songs. We have used well known fairytales to bring another perspective to things by defending or prosecuting some well known villains. Students have crafted court room speeches to deliver their arguments. This has been challenging and a lot of fun!

Mathematics

Our topics of study over the past weeks have been 'Time' and the 'Cartesian Plane'. (Grid references) We have had some fun with games like "Walk the Plank" (negative numbers) and "Battleships and Cruisers" which included the four quadrants of the cartesian plane and therefore involved negative numbers. Students followed a set of co-ordinates to reproduce a picture and also design their own pictures and created the matching set of co-ordinates.

We have revised analogue time on a clockface to the minute (drawing and reading), conversion between 24 and 12 hour time, elapsed time and reading timetables. We finished off with some investigation into ways of measuring time, from the past.

Humanities

The study of Civics and Citizenship has included how to be a member of the community and what citizenship means. We have looked at ways to volunteer, the reasons people become volunteers and how we can contribute to society.  We have also learnt about the ways our voices can be heard and representation in the government.

AUSLAN

To tie in with our maths work on time, we learnt how to sign time on a watch and some words for times of the day such as; day, night, tomorrow and tonight. We tested our knowledge with a game of bingo.

Design Technology

Thanks to Mrs Dowsett's efforts, students have been able to continue with designing a new handle and creating a prototype.  Some designs needed a bit of 'tweeking' and others needed a whole new plan! It was great to see ideas and designs come to life and see students problem solve as they created their handles. Thanks Mrs Dowsett!
