Prep One Guy and Thomas

Over the past two weeks we have been revising all learnt curriculum content ready for assessment this week. Students have tried very hard to show their knowledge and they have all been very resilient. Well done everyone.

In Literacy we have revised two and three letters making one sound including oo as in footy, oi as in coin, oy as in toy, ou as in house and ow as in cow. We have also revised contractions and heart words. We have worked hard on our narrative stories, where students have planned and written plus illustrated their very own narrative. We have worked very hard on making sure our sentences begin with uppercase letters and that people's names and the names of places also begin with an uppercase letter.

In Literacy Prep One Thomas have been learning about the way we communicate can affect how others understand our messages. We have explored how our words, tone of voice, facial expressions, gestures and body language can help us share our thoughts and feelings. Students have also been identifying how characters in stories and short films express their emotions through what they say, their facial expressions and their body language. The students have loved showing off their silly faces!!

We have a preservice teacher with us in Prep /One Guy.  Mr Langley has been teaching procedural texts. Students learnt how to follow a procedure and why we need to follow the steps in order. As you can see here, students followed a procedure to make paper airplanes.

In Numeracy we have been revising addition, subtraction, making equal groups in multiplication and sharing equally as in division.

We absolutely loved spending quality time with our Grand Parents and special people in the students' lives. We painted our hands, made bracelets, painted nails with nail polish and played board games together.

In Auslan we learnt about using the correct hand position for each sign. Students learnt how to sign  weekend, games, letter, stink, crazy, and door. Extension activities saw students signing these words in a sentence.

In History we learnt who invented the first food and the first wheel.

In Digital technologies we have been practising our Literacy and Numeracy content using My Literacy and My Numeracy. Remember this is available to your children at home. We also continued using Scratch Junior to code a story with a setting, characters, characters talking, adding photos and moving our characters.

How to help your child with their Literacy:

Bunyip Primary School has a subscription to Essential Assessment which has My Literacy as part of the program. Prep/ One Guy's log in details are inside their diary. Students use this program regularly, so they will be familiar on how to navigate the site. If you can't see your child's log in details, please contact the teacher.

Prep / 1 Games and Dinner Afternoon.

On Friday 16th October, the Preps and 1s enjoyed an afternoon of games, then dinner together in the hall. This is a great way for students to interact with each other after school in a fun and engaging way, and then all enjoy dinner together before going home. 🍕🍕🍕

Maths 🔢

In Maths, we have been learning about multiplication and division. For multiplication, we have been exploring doubles and using strategies such as repeated addition, equal groups, skip counting and arrays. In division, we have been learning that division is the opposite of multiplication and using bar models and long division to solve problems.

Students in 12M also enjoyed practising their skills outside with chalk drawings. They first had to divide themselves into 2 groups and then into 4 groups.

English 📚

In English, we have been reading The Little Prince and developing our narrative writing skills. We have been focusing on using boundary punctuation correctly and editing our writing to ensure it makes sense. We have also been learning how to use adjectives to describe nouns and make our writing more interesting. In Phonics, we have been learning about the suffixes -or, as in actor, meaning someone or something that acts, and -al, as in personal, meaning like or related to.

Grandparents' day 💕

In Week 3, we were very excited to welcome our wonderful Grandparents into our classroom for a special morning together. Students enjoyed spending time with their grandparents, drawing pictures, sharing stories and enjoying some delicious savoys and fairy bread and in 12M they enjoyed yummy scones, jam and cream. It was a lovely morning filled with smiles, laughter and special memories!

A Visit from Noodle 🐶🐶

Students in 12M enjoyed a visit from Mrs Murphy's dog "Noodle" or Noodlish.... as we call her. Mrs Murphy brought her as a pup from a parent at our school when she was only 8 weeks old. Mrs Murphy's students from last year: Jonah, Archie, Taz, Madison, Jackson S, Logan and Milan remember when she used to come in class regularly and give them lots of licks and still be able to fit in their laps. They couldn't believe how big she has grown, and we had to go on the Oval this time. Miss Noodle is only 15 months old, weighs 36kgs and still loves playing with the students, they ran around the oval, Noodle still loved lots of scratches and she still loved giving out licks.
