Ngata (hello),

National Sorry Day (May 26), is when we remember and pay respect to the First Nations peoples forcibly removed from their homes as part of the Stolen Generations.

National Reconciliation Week (27 May-3 June) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This week, we are recognising National Reconciliation Week 2026 by helping the OLA community deepen its understanding of reconciliation and celebrate the rich and enduring cultures of Australia’s First Nations Peoples — the oldest continuing cultures in the world.

The 2026 theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In. This theme reminds us that reconciliation is a shared responsibility and that every person can contribute to positive change through understanding, respect, and action.

Throughout the week, our FIRE Carriers have been leading the whole school in an Acknowledgement of Country and an Indigenous prayer each morning. They have also organised a range of activities including lunchtime triviaIndigenous Storytime, and a colouring competition. In addition, the FIRE Carriers have been visiting classrooms to share and teach students about different aspects of First Nations culture and history. They will also be presenting at next week’s whole school assembly.

We encourage families to speak with their children about what National Reconciliation Week 2026 means and ask them what they have learnt throughout the week at school. May this week inspire us all to continue working towards reconciliation every day, recognising that meaningful change requires the active participation of every Australian.

Loving God,

We thank You for the beautiful land we share,

and for the rich cultures of the First Peoples of Australia.

Help us walk together with courage, truth and kindness.

May we always listen with open hearts

 and learn with respect.

Let us be peacemakers, truth tellers, and friends to all.

We pray this in Your name.

Amen
