From Kinder to Classroom
This discussion is designed for parents of children who are:
Commencing Prep in 2027, or
Still deciding whether their child should begin Prep in 2027 or 2028, for those born close to the school entry cut-off date.
The session will explore the progression of early childhood development and how children build skills over time. A key focus will be understanding that new skills typically emerge only after foundational or prerequisite skills have been established and consolidated. The conversation is not intended to compare children, but rather acknowledges the individuality of every child and recognises that readiness for school is about more than just chronological age, or being able to read and write. I hope to provide parents with greater insight into the foundational skills that support successful transition to Prep.
Carli Goldberg - OT
A little bit about me: I have been an Occupational Therapist for over 10 years, during which time I have worked and volunteered solely in the paediatric field. I have experience supporting children on the Autism Spectrum, as well as children with ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, learning difficulties (including providing assessments for dysgraphia), motor planning difficulties (dyspraxia), gross and fine motor skill deficits, visual perceptual difficulties, and handwriting challenges. I also identify and assess primitive reflex retention and develop individualised treatment plans to support each child’s functional development. In addition, I also conduct VCE examinations when special provisions are being sought. A mum to two young children, I have a special interest in early childhood development and school readiness, and enjoy working with young clients to reach developmental milestones.
