What has been happening in the Year 3-4 classroom?

Hello!!!

Welcome to the 3/4 classroom at St Patrick's! We are excited to entertain you with everything we’ve been up to lately. From Science and Maths to Music and Sport, we have it all. We’ll even be diving into our History lessons and revealing our Walcha Show results. Sit back and enjoy the show!

Visual Arts by Mackenzie G and Oscar

In Visual Arts we have been working on our show art. We did a combined artwork of the McDonald River and Cobrabald Rivers.

How did we do it?

We were each given a section of our picture. We put crayon on the outline of the main features of the our artwork and painted with magic water colours. We then put all of our sections together to form our larger artwork 'Country Rivers.' Our artwork was made possible by artist Ms Jodie Herden. Mrs Jodie Herden, a Gamilaraay lady whose dad grew up in Walcha, created this art work for us to use as inspiration for the Walcha Show school display 2026.  It depicts the junction of the Cobrabald and McDonald rivers at Ingalba with the local meeting places included.

Music/band by Ella and Levi O

Hi everyone, we’re Ella and Levi! This term in music, we’ve been mastering the 'tika-tika' rhythm by feeling, seeing, and hearing the beat. We are also learning to move in 2/4 time and are practicing the three notes 'mi,' 're,' and 'do.'

We are also very lucky to have Mr Mackay and Mr Marshall come to our school and give us band lessons. We think the most exciting thing in band was watching year 3 recieve their instruments such as trombones, trumpets, flute, clarinet and saxophone.

Science and Technology by Reid and Harry

We’ve been diving into the science behind our clothes and food! We are learning how fibre and technology work together in the farming of sheep and cattle.

To help us understand these ideas, Mrs Mackson gave us a research challenge. Working in groups, we explored different agricultural topics and presented them to our class. Our group loved learning about sheep and cattle and sharing all the interesting facts we found with the class!

English by Levi W and Freddie

In our writing, we are practicing how to edit narratives for better flow. We are focusing on using correct grammar and punctuation, especially remembering to start every sentence with a capital letter. We are also learning to use descriptive language to share facts and show our point of view. By choosing our words carefully, we can make our stories much stronger!

Sport by Jack and Thibaud

Sport is one of our favorite parts of the week! It’s a fun way to burn off energy and keep our bodies healthy. Whether we are darting around in a game of Octopus, kicking goals in Soccer, or dodging players in Bullrush, we love the feeling of running free. We’ve also been practicing our long-distance running to get ready for Cross Country.

Health by Shane and Harper

We are learning how to stay safe by using three important steps: Recognise, React, and Report.

Recognise: When something is not right, when I feel unsafe or uncomfortable with a situation. If you can RECOGNISE unsafe situations it can help to keep you safe.

React: My body gives me clues- feeling sick, sweating, shaking. If you feel scared, confused, sad or upset you can REACT

Report: Tell a trusted adult exactly what happened.

By following these steps, we can make sure everyone stays safe!

Maths by Kenzie and Edwina

We have been learning about addition and inverse operations.  We always look at our learning intentions and success criteria if we need help. We are learning about partitioning, bar models and expanded notation. We feel like the work is challenging. BUT we wont stop working until we are proud.

Religion by Bella and Nate

This term we have been learning about Lent and how to respect ourselves and others. We are discovering about the days such as Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday, symbols, words and actions such as being humble. Lots of people are confident about this so we are going well.

Living Well and Learning Well by Archie and Angus

Our class is a place where we strive to do our best. We’ve been learning that making a good choice is always better than reacting poorly—because two wrongs don’t make a right!

One of our favorite routines is our 'Song of the Day.' It makes us feel good and helps us transition smoothly between subjects.

To make sure we are always growing, we work hard to achieve our personal learning goals.

By following our class rules, we make sure everyone in our room feels safe, respected, and happy.

Wrap up by Evie and Charlotte

We are a class that values, respects, and cares for one another. We love learning together and helping each other out. Mrs. Hoy is the best teacher because she stays by our side during the 'hard times' in our lessons. She is always kind, and no matter how confused we might feel, she is always there to help us find the answer!

Mrs Rizzi's Birthday by Campbell and Brayden

On Wednesday 18th March, we celebrated Mrs Rizzi's Birthday. Mrs Hoy made a big fuss about it and made Mrs Rizzi wear a huge badge!!!!

To make even more of a fuss Mrs Hoy made us sign to her 3 times throughout the day.

Mrs Rizzi had the best day of her life with her favourite class!
