Grade 6

Greetings parents, guardians, teachers and students!
The Grade Sixers have had quite an astonishing start to the year, having fun, working hard and striving towards our learning goals. We have had so many events happen so far as well, which the students (and teachers!) had an absolute blast experiencing! We went to camp at Wilsons Promontory, in which there were mesmerizing views that had most of us starstruck, breathtaking hikes including trips to Mount Oberon and Squeaky Beach, plus exciting adventures to Tidal River, where students were able to have a swim in Norman Bay, with some even getting the chance to participate in incredible surf lessons!
Now, camp wasn’t our only highlight! Interschool sports have been another brilliant part of Grade 6 so far! There have been many teams playing in sports such as volleystars, softball, cricket, basketball and handball, all showcasing great sportsmanship and enjoying the friendly competition against nearby schools. Students are having a glorious time improving and having fun each Friday morning! Talking about sports, students have also competed in swimming, some even progressing to stages above and beyond while absolutely smashing it!
There has been lots of improvement in class, too. Students have been improving their writing dramatically, focusing on recounts in particular this term. We have worked hard on being able to retell real life situations/experiences and doing some fantastic snapshot writing pieces! Reading has been a focus as well and our enthusiasm for picking good-fit books continues to grow. Grade 6 English classes are a lot of fun and are preparing us well for high school.
Students, of course, have been working on our maths skills too, focusing especially on the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) along with place value, BODMAS and other important knowledge. It has been great watching everyone improve throughout the start of the year and build up confidence in maths lessons.
Other honourable mentions include Grade 6 students thriving in their new leadership roles, integrated studies about the school values and our identities, cooking classes in the kitchen, winning Crunchie Awards at Grade 6 assemblies and many, many fun classroom games!
We can’t wait for all the fun still to come this term!
Kind regards from the Grade 6 cohort!
