Clean-Up Crew:

Jackson, Ryan and Devon came to see me with a cool proposal. They wanted to establish a Clean-Up Crew that would look after our school and keep it clean and tidy.
They talked a lot about the importance of our environment for our future, as well as its role as a home and habitat for native birds and local wildlife.
They asked if they could raise funds to buy vests. I was overjoyed at their proposal and the way they presented it. They had really thought things out. They clearly feel a strong commitment to our environment and to making a difference in this world. That being the case, I purchased vests with a Clean-Up Crew logo on them.
After their first gig on the job, they came to me with what they called "a cheeky proposal". They wondered if they could have a wheelie bin, as carrying rubbish bags around was heavy and less than ideal.
I purchased three bins and suggested that they look for people to add to their crew. The idea was that they could do a day each - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - with their own crew, so it was all manageable and not too big a drain on their time.
They liked the idea but were not prepared to issue vests until each potential recruit had proven they were totally committed to the cause.
