HOPE:

The Power of Hope Part 3: Perseverance and Hanging Tough

Perseverance is a value we see lived out every day at Western Heights.

It's the Year 3 student who practises their times tables every morning, even though they've never quite got the hang of them. It's the Year 6 child who puts themselves forward for a speech competition, even though they're nervous. It's the student who quietly comes to school day after day, working hard to improve in writing after falling behind.

None of this is glamorous. But it's powerful.

Hanging tough, sticking with something when it gets hard, is one of the most underrated life skills. We tend to celebrate talent, natural ability, or big success. However, the truth is that the people who succeed in life often simply keep going.

And that's what we want for our children.

At Western Heights, we celebrate perseverance in academic success, effort, attitude, and growth. We praise students for trying again. We acknowledge their ability to work through frustration. We remind them that mistakes are not failures; they're part of the process.

Hope is what fuels perseverance. Children who believe their effort matters are more likely to keep trying. When they see that setbacks are temporary, they're more willing to push through them.

Let's build classrooms and homes where perseverance is normalised and where hope keeps the flame alive even on hard days.
