Netball Fixtures Saturday 2nd August

Football Grand Final

Well done to our Senior Football team who played in the Grand Final against St Ignatius College on Wednesday 30th July.  St Ignatius came out strong, kicking the first three goals, but our girls showed incredible determination, responding with an impressive goal of our own and keeping St Ignatius to just 4 goals and 5 points for the entire game.  Although we narrowly missed out on the win, finishing with a score of 15–29, we dominated the second half with outstanding defensive pressure from every player on the field.  We are so proud of your effort, teamwork, and the way you represented Loreto. Well done, girls!

Thunderbirds Session

This week, our Year 10 netballers had the exciting opportunity to take part in a training session with Adelaide Thunderbirds player, Matilda Garrett.  Matilda generously shared her expertise in defensive play, guiding students through a series of drills designed to develop their skills and deepen their understanding of the game.

Pink Round

Just a reminder that this week (Week 2) is the scheduled PINK ROUND for sport.

In support of Australians affected by breast cancer, School Sport Associations SAAS, SACSSGSA and IGSSA have scheduled PINK ROUND into our sports fixture calendars for all sports games in our associations from July 28th – August 3rd, 2025.

We encourage players, officials, supervisors, and spectators to wear some PINK to raise breast cancer awareness, generate discussion encouraging breast screening, and show support for the 20,000+ women and men diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia every year.

Intercol Competition

Our annual intercollegiate competition between Mary Mackillop College and Loreto College will take place on Wednesday 20 August 4:00pm – 6:15pm at Loreto College. This event strengthens the shared community between our two catholic girl’s schools. We cannot wait to see the Loreto community come together in support of our teams, showcasing the Loreto spirit. We hope to see many of you there cheering our teams on.

Knockout Competition

Our Knockout teams continue to compete in the Statewide Competition representing Loreto well. Some of the games we have in coming weeks include:

  • Years 7-12 Soccer – Round 2 - Friday 15th August
  • Years 11/12 Knockout Netball – State Finals – Wednesday 27 August

We wish these teams the best of luck!

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Year 9 student Bridget Slattery on her selection in the School Sport 15&U Girls State Cricket Team!  We wish her all the best as she represents South Australia at the Cricket Championships in New South Wales this September.

During the holidays, Jasmine Davis competed at the 2025 Australian Gymnastics Championships. She competed alongside the best gymnasts in the country, including a number of her Olympic idols. Jasmine qualified for finals and ended up placing sixth in the country on level 8 floor. A huge congratulations to Jasmine on this outstanding achievement!

Thunderbirds Training

Our Year 3 and 4 netball teams had another fun training session with the Thunderbirds this week!

Latanya Wilson went through shadowing and hands-over defending while Lauren Frew took the players through passing and shooting.

Loreto’s relationship with the Adelaide Thunderbirds has been an exciting development for our netballers this winter. The Thunderbirds’ players have been very generous with their time and have delivered fun and engaging activities.

SAPSASA Soccer

Congratulations to Grace-Marie (6 Blue) who has been selected in the East Adelaide SAPSASA soccer team for the upcoming State Carnival.

Over 50 players from schools in our area trialled for the team and the standard was extremely high. Well done on your selection Grace-Marie and we hope that you have a great time!

Basketball Tournament

Amelia (6 Gold) and her club basketball team had a great time at the 2025 Nunawading tournament last term. It was a very tough competition but they still managed to walk away with a win against one of the very competitive Victorian teams. They also had some close losses that could have gone either way on the day. Most of all it was a great team building experience with many laughs and memories made.

Fuzz Therapy

Our Year 4 Gold soccer team has had an important off-field addition in recent matches, with Alessia’s puppy Archie patrolling the sidelines.

We had a tough game against Pulteney just before the July holidays with a few knocks and falls in a bruising encounter.

At one stage Helen came off the field in tears after a heavy clash. Archie was quickly on the case – a few cuddles and pats and the tears were soon replaced by giggles. Re-energised, Helen returned to the field and slotted a crucial goal to tie the game 2-2.

Forget ice packs and Panadol… the healing power of puppies is all you need.

Year 2 Netball

One of the first opportunities students at Loreto have to represent the school in competitive sport is in our Year 2 summer netball teams!

After years of watching older students and older siblings run around on the court, in Term 4 our Year 2s will be unleashed. We play in the Eastern Districts Netball Association’s Friday night competition against surrounding schools. The Year 2s play under “Netta” rules with lower ring heights and smaller netballs. The key focus areas are developing skills, learning the rules and having fun!
