Community Update
Loreto Community Day – Celebrating our History Through Art and Story
Loreto Marryatville came alive with joy, connection, and shared memories at our recent Community Celebration Day, a special event marking 120 years of Loreto Marryatville and 150 years of Loreto Australia and South East Asia. With something for every generation to enjoy, the day offered opportunities for old scholars, students, families, and staff to reflect, celebrate, and come together as one.
In The Square, guests were welcomed into the beautifully curated 120-Year Loreto Marryatville Exhibition, developed by our talented Artists in Residence Rosina Possingham and Leader of Visual Arts, Jacky Hamilton. This thoughtful collection showcased treasured items from the archives alongside contemporary artistic reflections, capturing the heart and heritage of our College across generations.
A highlight of the morning included artist address by Rosina, who generously shared her creative process and the stories behind the exhibition pieces. Her reflections beautifully tied the past to the present, inspiring all who attended.
Meanwhile, in the Performing Arts Centre, the 150-Year Travelling Exhibition, Being Faithful to Grace, offered a powerful insight into the broader Loreto journey across Australia and South East Asia. We were honoured to have Sr Sandra present, whose dedication and expertise were instrumental in bringing this national project to life.
Adding a vibrant energy to the day, our talented students took the stage for the drama performance Serious Business. Their skills and stage presence captured the audience and reminded us of the incredible creativity within our Loreto community.
With our young children’s activities running throughout the morning, there was no shortage of fun for our younger visitors and guests, thanks to our craft expert Jane Densley. In a touching nod to Loreto tradition, packages to make Loreto Brown Bread were available for old scholars to take home. Guests were also invited to explore our Acacias Building through a self-guided tour, and Q&A with David Hall and a walk through the Heritage Gallery with Penny Minchin.
This joyful day was a true celebration of who we are, rooted in tradition, enriched by creativity, and united as a community. We extend our warmest thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make this event so special. In this milestone year of reflection, your support and presence are a cherished part of our continuing Loreto story.
