Learning Across the

Junior School

Message From the Assistant Principal: Head of Junior School

Mid-Year Reception Students

We are delighted to welcome 14 new Mid-Year Reception students to the Loreto Junior School this term. These young learners have already embraced school life with confidence and joy, quickly settling into their new routines. They have been participating in a range of school activities, and their enthusiasm, curiosity, and adaptability have been a joy to watch.

Year 6 Students Lead Lunchtime Fun

Our Year 6 students, with the support of Ms Edwards, have taken the lead in bringing fun and engagement to lunchtime through a range of games and activities. They will support this initiative by guiding their peers and encouraging participation. This is a wonderful way for our students to build community spirit while developing their leadership skills.

Year 6 Migration Unit

Late last term, our Year 6 students proudly showcased their learning through a series of presentations to parents as part of their Migration Unit. Each student researched and presented the story of a woman with a migration background who has made a significant impact in Australia. The depth of research, thoughtful preparation, and creativity on display were truly impressive.

One standout moment came when Savannah Yeates emailed Senator Fatima Payman. To her delight, she received a personal and uplifting response from the Senator. This certainly was a special and memorable connection that brought her learning to life. (See response below)

Dear Savannah,

Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful message and for sharing your incredible artwork.

I’m truly honoured that you chose to reflect such a significant moment through your creativity. Your message of women breaking through unbreakable barriers deeply resonates with me and it’s exactly why I crossed the floor that day.

Please know that your art has reached me, and it means more than words can express. It has made its place on my office wall. Keep using your talent and voice to speak truth and inspire others (you're already doing just that)!

Best regards,

Senator Fatima Payman

Wellness Week at Loreto

Next week at Loreto, in alignment with our SEAD program, we will be celebrating Wellness Week across the whole school. In the Junior School, we will begin the week with a Liturgy hosted by our Year 6 Leaders and Year 12 student Executive. Each day will feature a variety of purposeful activities designed to promote healthy living, kindness, and respect, towards ourselves and one another. It promises to be a meaningful week that nurtures wellbeing and strengthens our sense of community.

Year 2 Science – Volunteer Wanted!

As part of our science unit this term, Year 2 students are exploring how humans change materials to meet their needs. To support this learning, we are looking for a volunteer who can demonstrate how wool is spun into fibre. If you have experience with spinning and would be willing to share your skills with the class, please get in touch—we’d love to hear from you! Year 6 Ecotourism Inquiry: Exploring Asia Through Sustainability

A major focus of our inquiry work this term in Year 6 is centred around Asia and ecotourism principles. Girls work collaboratively in groups to gather information on the geological features of Asia, weather patterns, flora and fauna and the history and cultural practices that are specific to nations within Asia.

In the roles of Historian, Environmentalist, Anthropologist and Scientist, students will delve into ecotourism principles and design an ecotourism experience based on the triangle of sustainability, so that their holiday promotes social, economic, and environmental benefits to the local communities.

Using their creative and critical thinking skills, groups will promote their holiday in an Ecotourism Expo, showcased to our parent and school community. The expo will involve activities that embrace the natural and pristine landscapes, whilst respecting and sustaining the lives of the local indigenous people. Girls design fact sheets, itineraries, advertisements, and accommodation for their ecotourism that will be evident in 3D models, and better still, even be viewed through our VR goggles.

This promises to be a dynamic and exciting learning journey, integrating multiple disciplines, whilst showcasing the intrepid research and innovative thinking skills of our talented Year 6 cohort.
