Sports Update

Interschool Sports

On the second day back of term, our Senior Boys and Girls Basketball team headed to AWA/Beyond Bank Stadium to compete. The boys team was competitive and made it through to the semi-final. The girls team played really well and had heaps of fun, and everyone scored a goal during the day. Well done to both teams!

We had 5 senior teams head out on the 31st of July: 2 badminton teams, 2 netball teams and a senior boys soccer team. The badminton teams were keen beans to take the court. They played with heart and had lots of fun. Great work guys!

The 2 netball teams headed to the courts early ready for the competition ahead. The teams both had some awesome games, and lots of fun. Great efforts everyone!

The soccer team, in their first game of the day, gave Western Heights a run for their money with a few scoring opportunities and kept themselves to only a 2-0 loss. After a long wait, they played super well with a 2-0 win in their second game. In the final they were up at the start, but unfortunately in the second half the oppositions overtook them. Amazing job to everyone who played!

State Cross Country Championships

Skye Gamosa competed at the State Cross Country Championships in Yarra Valley. He placed 19th with a time of 17:05min. Awesome effort Skye and congratulations on an amazing cross-country season.

Intermediate Sports

Our year 9 and 10 soccer boys hit the pitch, and co-captains Gioele Cavallo and Aryan Davidson gave the team a brilliant pep talk and off they went. The boys played well against some tough sides, but unfortunately the day was not theirs to take. Great job team.

The Girls Netball team headed to the courts in week 2, ready to take on the other schools. They played beautifully throughout the day with the assistance of student helpers Jemma Trainor and Ruby Saint, but unfortunately the girls couldn't quite make it to the final/ Awesome work to all students involved.

While the girl's netball was taking on the netball courts, the Boys Badminton team were ready to compete on the badminton courts. Although the boys had some strong games and some awesome plays, they had to face some very strong sides. Well done everyone!

Rugby Academy Update

Term 3 is a busy one for Academy students.

We kicked off the term on day one with a full Rugby Academy Excursion to Marvel Stadium to watch the Pacifica/Indigenous team train in preparation for their game V;’s the British/Irish Lions the following night.

The Cricket Academy also visited Marvel Stadium to joining in with the Melbourne Renegades Training.

Both Cricket and Rugby senior students also completed their first Aid and CPR training as part of their VET course. Thanks to Josh from Savile RTO for his training.

The Rugby Academy sees the Girls under 16’s team play 4 pool games arranged by RugbyVic. The first of which was played this week with the team narrowly going down to a much-improved Sunshine Secondary College.

The boys Under 16/18 teams have 2 carnival days coming up in August playing schools from across the region.

Cricket Academy Update

Visit to CitiPower Centre

A recent visit to CitiPower Centre (Junction Oval) was a terrific success. During this experience, students were treated to an exclusive training session and tour of Victoria’s premier cricket facility where we also heard from key Cricket Victoria staff who work behind the scenes to support professional players.

Highlights included a talk from former Australian Test representative and Head of Melbourne Cricket Education Academy, Michael Beer, who shared insights into player development and cricket education pathways. The group also took part in a high-quality skills session in the nets, led by Chris Harris, a respected specialist coach with Cricket Victoria. Students were able to use advanced equipment, including professional grade bowling machines, offering a glimpse into the tools used at the elite level.

A special moment of the day was the opportunity to meet several members of the Victorian Men’s squad, giving students a firsthand look at how professional cricketers train and prepare. This visit was a valuable experience that inspired students and provided a deeper understanding of the pathways and standards required to progress in high-performance cricket.

Winter Indoor Program

Our Winter Indoor Program also commenced last week with an introduction to Indoor Cricket at Nimble Hits Stadium in Bell Park. Over the coming weeks, students will engage in friendly intra-academy competition with two matches scheduled simultaneously during each session.

We’ve also secured a number of bookings at Geelong Regional Cricket Centre, where students will have access to specialist batting and bowling coaches (in addition to our teaching staff), as well as bowling machines and various other elite training aids. Please see Compass for further details regarding this program.
