Starting Term 3 with 6G!

To begin their final semester in Year 6 at GWPS, the highly anticipated Athletics Carnival had been the most talked about event of the first week back! A day most certainly filled with excitement, determination and plenty of special memories.

From the first event to the last, our Year 6 students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm. Whether they were competing on the track, taking on field events or using their spirit to cheer for their peers, every student played a key role in creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Their eagerness to challenge themselves, celebrate each other's achievements and give every event their best, reflected the maturity and sportsmanship they have developed over the years.

As their final Athletics Carnival in primary school, the day held a special significance. It was an opportunity to reflect on how much our students have grown:

• Pavirna: "It's strange to think that this was our last Athletics Carnival after 3 entire years of doing them together. Looking around at everyone cheering, laughing, and giving their best reminded me how quickly school has gone by. I had the greatest time at my very last GWPS Athletics Carnival whether I was winning ribbons or cheering from the sidelines. I'll miss these moments more than the races themselves, and I'm grateful we had a day to share all our sporting achievements one last time before we all head off in different directions."
• Javis: "I remember the first time when I stepped onto that same Athletics Track, 3 years ago. 3 years of practising, 3 years of competing, and 3 years of having fun. Athletics every year was always a highlight for me and watching myself and others succeed was one of the best feelings I’ve experienced. It’ll be hard to say goodbye to GWPS athletics, we won’t be racing all our current friends and won’t be listening to the same teachers. I’m fully appreciative of everyone who helped create memories that I’ll be sure to keep with me, and I wish the best of luck to my peers advancing to District."
• Sanuka: "Participating in the athletics carnival was an exciting and enjoyable way to express my feelings for athletics and having fun. I took part in several events, cheered on my friends, and enjoyed spending time together by doing something we all like. Although some events were challenging, I tried my best and learned the importance of perseverance, having a positive attitude and working hard. Overall, it was a fun day that created great memories."
• Lesara: "Athletics was a great experience of fun, sportsmanship and dedication. Personally, I placed in everything except shotput but even when people didn’t get a ribbon, they kept smiling because they were just happy to be there with their friends altogether on their last athletics at Glen Waverley Primary School."
• Reyaansh: "The Athletics Carnival on Friday was an amazing experience as we got to do so many different kinds of activities including the 100m sprint and the long jump which are my favourites. Even if I did not win any ribbons, I still had a lot of fun with my friends while doing different activities together."
• Mehar: "It had felt a bit weird thinking about how this would be our last Athletics Carnival at GWPS. Walking onto that field for the last time was exciting. Just having fun and enjoying the activities, talking to my friends. Then it hits me, this will be our very last time here with these people I've practically known my entire life. I'll miss being able to walk into 6G and knowing that I won't be judged and just be able to be myself and enjoy being there. I'm proud to have finished primary school with a confident attitude and new connections with my peers."
• Rehmat: "Our last athletics carnival was such a great experience for all of us, and it was difficult to believe that after 3 years of practicing, training and having fun, it was finally time to farewell the memories we had collected over the years. We celebrated sports while spending our time with our friends and supporting each other. It felt like winning ribbons didn’t matter, it was all about filling our last athletics carnival with things that let us look back and think “I’m proud of myself.” Athletics was such a great experience, and I can’t wait to see what high school athletics will bring to us!"

As the year continues and graduation draws closer, we hope this final Athletics Carnival remains one of the many treasured memories from our year 6's final year of primary school, here at GWPS.
