YEAR 9-10 SCHOOL NEWS

Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Education

On Wednesday 10th June, our Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Education students took part in an exciting introductory mountain biking session at the You Yangs as part of their Ride Off-Road Bicycles on Easy Trails module. The afternoon provided students with the opportunity to develop fundamental off-road riding skills while building confidence navigating varied terrain in a challenging outdoor environment.

Students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating enthusiasm, resilience, and a willingness to challenge themselves throughout the session. It was fantastic to see students support one another while applying key riding techniques including balance, braking, gear selection, and trail awareness. Their positive attitude, respect for the environment, and commitment to learning contributed to a highly successful day.

This experience marks an excellent beginning to the module, and students should be congratulated on the maturity and effort they displayed while embracing a new and exciting outdoor recreation challenge.

Thanks,

Mr Parker

Year 9 Outdoor Education

On Friday 12th June, some of the Year 9 Outdoor Education students enjoyed a fantastic day of outdoor learning at the You Yangs, where they put a range of practical skills into action. Students began the day by planning and preparing their own meals using Trangia cooking systems, developing important skills in teamwork, organisation, and safe camp stove use.

Following lunch, students completed a hike to Flinders Peak, challenging themselves physically while enjoying the rewarding views and unique natural environment. Throughout the day, students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating resilience, cooperation, and a positive attitude in all activities. It was particularly pleasing to see students embrace new challenges while supporting one another throughout the experience.

Congratulations to all students on the maturity, effort, and enthusiasm they displayed during a highly successful outdoor education experience.

Thanks,

Mr Parker

Year 9 Humanities

Ms. Riley’s Year 9 Humanities students recently took part in a hands-on democracy activity where they formed their own political parties, developed campaign policies, and participated in an election. Working in groups, students created policies that reflected issues important to them before presenting their ideas to the class. They then experienced Australia’s preferential voting system firsthand, gaining a deeper understanding of how elections work. Every group demonstrated excellent creativity, teamwork, and engagement throughout the activity.
