School Council Report

The School Council last met on Monday, the 18th of May.

Some of the items that were discussed included:

  • A child safety briefing and discussion of policies:

Simone presented a slideshow on child safety and the various protocols that are in place to ensure students remain safe both at school and within our community.

  • The 2025 Annual School Report was confirmed as officially endorsed on by school council members on 22nd April.

  • Potential sub-committees were discussed, and some were formed.

Sub-committees formed and their member thus far are:

-Finance Sub-Committee: Simone Roy, Mitch Harris, Kelly Roffey, and Emma Colson.

-Fundraising Sub-Committee: Rachel Fallon, Rhona Weir, and Marley-May Tryhorn,

-Buildings and Grounds Sub-Committee: Owen Davies, Claire Mackinlay, and Andrew Greenfield.

Another focus group on communications and community engagement was also discussed. Mitch Harris is already working in this area with representatives from the staff, school council and parent group (community). Therefore, the council will hear more from Mitch and this group at the next meeting.

  • Expressions of interest for a place at the  School for Student Leadership (SSL) were discussed and approved. Fingers crossed our school is offered another four, or more, positions by this fabulous leadership school for 2027. The 2026 SSL camp is currently underway and we look forward to hearing all about the fantastic experiences had by our current Year 9 students when they return.

  • Additionally, next year’s Indonesian trip was tabled. As planning takes such a long time, Ita Rose is already researching and planning for the 2027 Indonesian trip. Keep your eye out for 'expressions of interest' regarding this wonderful opportunity. Should you be studying Indonesian and be in Year 8 or above, consider joining this once in a life time experience.

  • SRC (Student Representative Council) are currently looking at the school's sport uniform. We look forward to hearing their proposed ideas for change.

  • Governance training for our school council members was discussed. This training, to ensure school council is run appropriately and efficiently, will be completed by members in the following months. Additionally, the Department School Council self-assessment tool was completed by school council members prior to the meeting. The data collected from this was discussed and a reassessment will be completed towards the end of the year to see growth. This also assists in ensuring school council operates at a high standard.

The next School Council meeting will be on Tuesday, 23rd June, Room 9, at 6:30pm.

Please forward any agenda items you'd like discussed at this meeting to the school or a member of the School Council.

Everyone is welcome to come and observe School Council meetings, so feel free to pop along.
