Snowsports are an important part of most student’s time at Mount Beauty Secondary College, due to the participation and student success forming a major part of a students school identity. Our winter sports program is one of the most popular things our graduates talk about, combining fun, connection with peers and staff, learning skills and improving, with competitive opportunities in both downhill and cross-country skiing.
We’re proud that we have had past students compete at the Olympic level and have had these alumni return in varying capacities to the school.
Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding
Our downhill program runs for five full days at Falls Creek during Term 3, alternating between Mondays and Wednesdays. Students can choose to ski or snowboard and are required to maintain one discipline for the development of their skills and connection with their group. Each day includes a lesson from on mountain staff, lunch as a group and then time to practice their developing skills with school staff and volunteers.
Cross Country Skiing
For those who want to spend more time on the snow and build their fitness, our cross-country skiing program is a perfect opportunity. It runs during Sport periods to minimise disruption to classes, with sessions for students in Years 7-10.
Students can use classic skis and are encouraged to participate in events like the Joey Hoppet and the ASSSTC.
Students are welcome to join both downhill and cross-country programs!
Australian Secondary Schools Snowsports Team Championship (ASSSTC)
The ASSSTC offers students a unique team-based competition across Alpine, Cross Country, and Snowboard disciplines.
Teams of up to 16 students compete, with most members participating in multiple disciplines. This inclusive format encourages broad participation and fosters team spirit and school representation. This year we will again have students stay on mountain to build the atmosphere of the team. We wish them well next term and encourage other students to nominate for this opportunity in future years.
