VPC News

In VPC Term 2, we have been studying a wide range of topics. These subjects are to help us in our everyday lives. 

In Digital Literacy, we have been learning about the numerous ways to stay safe online. Digital Footprints, Cyber Safety, different Social Media types and tools are just some of the many interesting lessons we’ve had. 

In Literacy, we are learning about the different digital media types, such as YouTube videos, blogs, newsletters, advertisements, TikToks and many more. In these classes we have also been tasked with making our own digital media piece. One example is that a student has made a YouTube short displaying a personal interest, complete with music. Other students have created their own advertisements for T-shirts. 

In Numeracy, we have been learning about financial literacy. In this class, we learn about and try to understand the different requirements that come with financing, such as bills, pay slips, and budgeting. This class also delves into how to calculate discounts, so you know if you’re truly saving money. 

In Personal Development Skills (PDS), we have been looking at the 3 Levels of Government and local accessibility. In these classes, we learn who to contact in different scenarios, whether it’s Local, State or Federal. We have also been observing the different accessibility features and drawbacks in Morwell and the surrounding areas. 

Many VPC students are also undertaking different courses. Some are doing TAFE courses, while some are doing SBATs at the local Foodbank and schools. Some TAFE courses being undertaken are Animal Care and Hair & Beauty. 

ACMI Excursion

On the 1st of June, VPC took a train and went to Melbourne to learn about moving images through the ages at Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). The class walked through many different interactive displays, scanning a ‘disk’ to gather information that they liked. The personal favourite of many students was the gaming area, where they had old arcade machines available to play. 

After the class had exited the exhibits and building, we walked to Hosier Lane. This is an uphill laneway covered in murals and images made with spray paint and marker; it is a hotspot for tourists to check in and make their mark. 

After we had looked at Hosier Lane, we walked to the underground Flinders Street Station, took a train to Southern Cross and arrived at Spencer Street Outlet, a plaza with food courts and a variety of different stores to satisfy your needs. Some of the stores included Bonds, TK-Maxx, Converse and Smiggle. 

A tired crew of VPC students, and staff, trekked back to Southern Cross to catch our train back home to Morwell.
