Assistant Principal's Report

If you haven’t already met me, my name is Megan Goldenberg and I am the Acting Assistant Principal for Term 2. I am currently Assistant Principal at Wollert Primary School, a school that opened in 2022 in the North-West Region of Victoria. I have loved getting to know the students, teachers and family in my time here so far. Thank you to the community for welcoming me so warmly. 

There have already been some wonderful things happening at Whitehorse Primary School this term both in and outside of the classrooms!

Canine Comprehension 

One of the fantastic programs I have been involved in has been the Canine Comprehension Program, a dog-assisted therapy program that helps students develop social-emotional learning skills and improve their confidence and wellbeing. 

In Term 2, each Friday, Sarah and her dog Bambi come to Whitehorse Primary School to visit our group of participating Year 3/4 students. The students have been exploring emotions and learning about regulation. They have been able to give Bambi lots of pats and have even had a go at teaching her tricks!

Student Leaders 

I have also had the opportunity to work with our Year 6 student leaders to develop their leadership skills and support them in their roles.

Last week we talked about what makes a leader and brainstormed the key attributes that were important to them in their leadership journeys. We talked about how a badge does not necessarily make someone a leader - you may have a badge and not be a leader or you may be a leader without a badge. It is our actions and words that make us a leader. 

It is so important to our Year 6 student leaders to be great role models for all of the students at Whitehorse Primary School. They have started to set some small goals for themselves which they will reflect on each time we meet. Some of these are linked to how they run assemblies but the best of these goals is to inspire the younger students! 

I can’t wait to be part of more amazing learning experiences this term!
