News from 5/6
Swimming
The 5/6s are well and truly exhausted after two weeks of swimming! While the teachers and parent onlookers sweltered in the humidity, the students swam lap after lap, working on their skills and resilience. We are so proud of you all! It will be nice to get back to ‘normal’ for the rest of the term. Here are the teachers joining in on the final day of Fun day, doing the Y.M.C.A.
Orienteering
Last Friday all of the 5/ 6's were involved in a whole day of Orienteering followed by a treasure hunt at Maroondah Dam. The children showed great resilience and stamina after a full week of swimming to run or walk around the Marrondah Dam site. The day was a great success with several of the students coming away with awards.
Testing Day at Upper Yarra Secondary College
The Grade 6 students attended UYSC on Wednesday with Ms Cooper for a Maths and Literacy testing day.
Newshounds
During Literacy this term, the 5/6s have been learning how to be critical consumers of media through a program called Newshounds. Each day they explore a new topic related to media literacy, focussing on “sniffing out fake news and misinformation” and learning to stop and think before believing everything they see, read or hear online. Here are some posters the students have made where the students cherry-picked information to persuade their chosen audience to either entice people to buy their product or to warn people to stay away from the same product. As you can see they are very convincing.
Excursion to City
We are planning an excursion to the city for Tuesday, 19th November. Details will be out on Operoo in the next couple of days. Stay tuned!

Graduating students and families are invited to attend and celebrate their time at St Joseph's with their teachers. There will be a note on Operoo soon giving quotes for meal prices and asking for numbers.

Cire Teddy Bears Picnic
Thank you to Lexi, Sophie, Eli, and Fynn for their assistance at the CIRE Teddy Bears Picnic last week! Lexi, Sophie, Eli and Fynn helped run some fun activities, including a teddy bear craft activity and a teddy bear search game! It was wonderful to see how respectful and responsible Lexi, Sophie, Eli and Fynn were and what great leaders they were!
