Student Wellbeing

Mrs Rebecca Beveridge

Well, what a fantastic past two weeks we have had at St Joseph's, with lots of movement happening for swimming! It has been so amazing to see so many amazing kids being so resilient and trying their best! We are so proud of them all!

Friendship Groups

Last week, in Friendship Groups, we explored emotional triggers and how we can be aware of our own and other people's emotional triggers. We discussed what emotional triggers look like and what can happen when our emotions get too big. We made a volcano to show what that would look like and discussed how our emotions can sometimes come rushing out when they build up.

We then talked about what appropriate reactions to an event look like. Here are some examples!

When you trip over
When you get to have Maccas for dinner
Getting a new puppy
When someone hurts your feelings

After this, some students created their own volcano pictures to showcase the different levels that we go through when we have a big emotional reaction to something. Some students choose to write things that help them calm down when they need to. Other students chose to draw a picture that included all their favourite things or made them feel happy.

Exciting news!!!

Over the past two years, I have been completing my Master of Education, specialising in Student Wellbeing, at Melbourne University. I recently completed my last big project, a Capstone. This involved researching a topic and creating a 6,000-word paper to discuss what I discovered. I also had a conference where I presented my research and findings to my peers. My research topic was the following: What are the key strategies that underpin Effective Parent Engagement?

It was really exciting to research this topic, and I look forward to implementing some of the strategies I learned at St Joseph's. If you're interested and would like to read my project, I have attached it below!

Now, all to do is wait and see my final scores!

Please reach out for help if you ever need it!
