Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a great day here at St Joseph's at the end of a very busy week. We hosted the Junior Sports Day with schools from all over the valley joining us on our oval for many fun sports activities. It was a pleasure having everyone along and hearing the lovely things they had to say about our beautiful school and the excellent behaviour of our students. I was so proud of the respect shown to the teachers and secondary school students by my group of Year 2 Students (Charlie, Annabelle, Olivia, Monty, Blake and Ivy).
For more photos, refer to the Junior Sports Day Page
Sadly, we also had the funeral of our previous Maintenance Officer, Don Manning. Please refer to the the Deputy Principal Page to read the lovely words Katie shared about Don. Please keep Don and his family in your prayers.
As has been tradition for many years, Cup Weekend is an extra long weekend for our students. This comes at a great time as everyone seems pretty tired at the end of this week. I think the CIRE Trick or Treat in Yarra Junction took it out of a few of our students. Hopefully some down time over the weekend will provide everyone with an opportunity to re-energise for the final run up to the end of term and Christmas.
As previously communicated students will not be at school on the following dates:
Friday 6 December - Pupil Free Day (2025 Planning Day)
The school term ends for students on Tuesday 17 December at 3:00pm
School Holidays run from Wednesday 18 December to Sunday 26 January, 2025.
Pupil Free Days 2025
Thursday 3 and Friday 4 April - Staff Conference 2025
Monday 3 November - Cup Eve Pupil Free Day
More dates will be added as they are added to the calendar.
Please keep the children, families, and staff of Auburn South Primary School in your thoughts and prayers at what must be an unbearably difficult time for them. This is a stark reminder of the sanctity and fragility of life. It would be worth considering how much exposure your children are having to news of this tragic event in the media and online. Events such as this can be particularly unsettling for children. If they talk to you about this, provide them with the opportunity to speak, listen carefully to what they have to say and reassure them that they are safe with us at St Joseph's. Let them know that, although this is a very sad event, it is also very rare for this kind of thing to happen. Reach out if you feel your child is struggling with this or if they have any other concerns.
Best wishes for a restful weekend.
Nick.
