Beginning Advent & Preparing for Our End-of-Year Liturgy
As we move toward the end of another school year, this weekend marks the beginning of Advent, a sacred season in our Church that invites us into hope, anticipation, and preparation. Advent is a time where we pause and make space—amidst the busyness of finishing classes, assessments, and celebrations—to reflect on the coming of Christ into our world and into our lives today. The four weeks of Advent remind us to watch, to wait, and to remain open to the ways God continues to break into our ordinary moments with light, love, and hope.
Next Friday, we will gather as a community for our Years 7–10 Advent and Christmas Liturgy. This celebration always holds a special place in our school year. It draws together the themes of Advent—light, expectation, peace—and invites us to recognise God’s presence among us in the friendships we’ve built, the challenges we’ve faced, and the good work we have achieved together. It is a moment where we pause, breathe, pray, and ready ourselves for the joy of Christmas.
At this liturgy, we will also take the time to farewell and bless the staff members who are concluding their time at St Mary MacKillop College. Each of these staff has contributed generously to the life, spirit, and learning of our community. Their dedication, kindness, and service have enriched our students and supported our mission of honouring the dignity of all. We thank them sincerely for the gifts they have shared and pray that God continues to guide them with hope and peace in their next chapter.
As we step into Advent, may we carry with us the spirit of watchfulness and hope. May we notice moments of grace, embrace opportunities to care for others, and prepare our hearts for the joy of Christmas.
A Prayer for the Beginning of Advent
Loving God,
As we enter this season of Advent, open our hearts to Your presence.
Help us to wait with patience, to hope with courage, and to welcome Your light into our lives.
Bless our school community as we prepare to gather for our Christmas liturgy, and pour Your grace upon the staff we farewell.
May they know our gratitude and feel Your gentle guidance in the journey ahead.
Fill us all with peace, kindness, and a renewed sense of joy as we prepare for the coming of Christ.
Amen.
Jesus light of the world, guide us
St Joseph, journey with us
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us
