Instrumental Music

Ensemble rehearsals commenced this week. If your son plays an instrument and is interested in joining one of the ensembles, please email me at cspannenbu@cns.catholic.edu.au asap. The rehearsal schedule is below:

A reminder that the times give above are the starting times. All students should arrive at least 5 minutes before the rehearsal starting time. Early is on time – on time is late.

NOTE: The CSC String Orchestra is moving house. Rehearsals will be at St Monica’s with Mrs Rebecca Austin. Students will catch the boarders bus back to Saints at the end of the rehearsal. Thank you to St Monica’s for hosting this.

Instrumental lessons also commenced this week. If your son is interested in learning an instrument, please email me on the above email address for more information. We support lessons in voice, piano, guitar, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion.

Major Project – The Cantata Belshazzar’s Feast

It is the major project this year. Like Carmina Burana there will be a gala performance at CPAC on 5 May – MARK YOUR CALENDARS because it will be epic. This work tells the biblical story from the Book of Daniel: King Belshazzar of Babylon throws a feast using sacred vessels stolen from the Jerusalem Temple. A mysterious hand appears and writes words on a wall, foretelling his doom. The prophet Daniel interprets the message –Babylon will fall – and that very night Belshazzar is killed and his kingdom is taken by the Persians.

All students will rehearse during sport until 5pm each Wednesday. The choir will rehearse at St Monica’s and the orchestra at St Augustine’s. There are two extended rehearsals on 18 February and 11 March where we get to rehearse with our community members for the performance. These rehearsals are in lieu of a music camp and it is essential students are present.

Should your son be playing senior CISSA sport and singing in the choir, he must make his own way to St Monica’s after school.

Our program is busy and vibrant with many opportunities for performances. We entertain at assemblies, perform in productions and music nights as well as provide liturgical music for the College. Our students have many performance opportunities.

the calendar each edition to check that you are abreast of all that his happening, and make sure you put these dates in your diary.
