Our Year 10 students will undertake five days of work experience next term. Work experience is a compulsory part of the Year 10 curriculum and careers program. The College uses an external provider, Vocational Partnerships Group (VPG), to offer our students a broad range of placement options at reputable employers in the Cairns region. VPG conducts interviews, collates feedback and checks in on students while they are on placement. 

There are always many questions at the start of Year 10 regarding work experience, so important dates and information for this program are below:

Thursday 12 February

• VPG induction for Year 10 students will be held during Period 2.

• The Year 10 Work Experience Parent Information Evening will be held from 5:30 to 6:30pm in Lennon Hall. A parent slip with an RSVP will be sent next week.

Thursday 19 February

• Students will be briefed on what is expected in the VPG work experience interview, and receive their interview time. (Interviews will occur during school hours.)

• Students will be given an application to complete for their interview.

   

Thursday 26 and Friday 27 February

• Students will be interviewed by VPG staff.

   

Thursday 12, Friday 13 and Friday 20 March

• White Card training sessions will take place. A White Card is necessary for any boys who do work experience or plan to work in the construction field (electrical, trades, architecture, etc.). An email will be sent out before these sessions to boys who need to acquire a White Card, which costs approximately $90.

   

Week 3 of Term 2

• Students will receive their placement information.

   

Monday 18 to Friday 22 May

• Students will do work experience.
