What's happening in Term 1?

Welcome back

Thank you to all families (and staff!) for taking the time in contributing photos to our fun window display welcoming students back to school! It is always great to hear that lots of reading continued to happen during the holidays!

This week I have been visiting classrooms across the school to present a start up session to students introducing and reminding them of the expectations and responsibilities needed in order to get the most from our school library and assist in its vital organization and smooth running!

The whole school timetable includes class Library visits from next week. The books are very excited at the prospect of being borrowed out!  We are preparing to introduce lots of new titles and topics to our Picture Story, Fiction and Non-Fiction areas.

Please remember to check your Library visit day and bring along your special library book bag so that you can start borrowing!

During Term 1 we will be jumping on board the 2024 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge and look forward to celebrating lots of reading milestones all the way through to September!  Please look out for further details as they become available.

Say hello to your Library Captains for 2024

                           Michael                      Zoe                            Felix                          Bailey

Let's hear from Michael first ...

Hello everyone, my name is Michael and I am one of your new Library captains for 2024. I am in Miss Wild’s class.  I am excited to meet everyone during this awesome year!

I wanted to become a Library captain because of my love for books and I also wanted to help Mrs Hagan.  I’m really looking forward to helping students discover their love for books and reading.

In my spare time I love to socialize with my friends while playing video games, read (of course!) and mess around with my friends.

My favourite author is Gege Akutami and his book series Jujutsu Kaisen and my favourite genre is horror/action. If you see me around at the school grounds, please come up and say hello to me!

Next up, its Zoe!

Hi! My name is Zoe and I am one of your 2024 Library captains.  I am in Ms Moyle’s class.

I’m really looking forward to book week and getting to see everyone’s creative costumes!

My favourite book series is the Babysitters Club by Raina Telgemeier and Best Wishes by Sarah Miynowski.

In my spare time I enjoy talking to my friends, playing netball and reading books! I have a cat and his name is Ziggy and I am a huge fan of Taylor Swift.

Feel free to say Hi to me if you see me around school!

Over to you Felix ...

Hello! My name is Felix and I’m one of your Library captains for 2024.  I am in Miss Wild’s class.

I enjoyed being a play leader and buddy because I got to work with younger students, I also enjoy reading!

I wanted to be a Library captain because this will give me the opportunity to continue working with younger students, I also wanted to practise my public speaking.  I’m really looking forward to working with all of you!

In my spare time I like to draw, read and ride my bike.  My favourite author is Jeff Kinney who writes Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

If you see me in the yard please come and say hello!

And finally, here's Bailey!

Hello everyone, my name is Bailey and I am one of your wonderful Library captains.  I am proud to be in Mrs Harris and Ms Blonik’s class.

I’ve always wanted to be a Library captain for one main reason, to help all students from Foundation to Year 6 to accomplish their reading goals, reach their full potential in reading and most importantly find their love for books. I have also always wanted to be a Library captain to help our amazing school, to have new experiences and feel I am a true leader of Karoo Primary School.

I am very excited to help in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge and see who manages to come first.  I am excited to help in Book Week and I am also excited to introduce our visiting Author and learn all about them.

In my spare time I like to, well, obviously read! I also like to play music.  The instruments I play are guitar, drums and piano.  I like riding my bike, surfing when I am at the beach and solving Rubik’s cubes!

I don’t really have a favourite author or genre, it really depends on how I am feeling.  For example, if I feel like reading something fun I would go for Anh Do but if I wanted something scary I might pick R L Stine.  I would say my favourite book series is Bad Guys, especially the very first book!

Hopefully the next time you see me around the school you will have a better understanding of the person I am, feel free to come and say Hi!
