🎉50th Year Open Day 🎉

What a fantastic day at our Open Days across both campuses!

It was wonderful welcoming so many families, sharing our spaces, and giving a glimpse into the heart of our community. Thank you to everyone who came, connected, and helped make the days so special.

50th Year Thanksgiving Service & Alumni Lunch

Our 50th Year Thanksgiving Service and Alumni Lunch was a meaningful celebration of faith, community and legacy. The service provided a special opportunity to reflect with gratitude on God’s faithfulness and the many lives shaped over five decades. Following the service, alumni gathered for lunch to reconnect, share memories and celebrate enduring friendships. It was a joyful occasion that brought together past and present students, staff and families to honour our history and celebrate all that has been built together. 

🏃🏻‍♀️🏆Upper Primary Athletic Carnival🏆🏃🏻‍➡️

What an incredible day at last week’s Upper Primary Athletic Carnival! Our students showed outstanding sportsmanship, determination and house spirit across all events, with cheering, encouragement and teamwork on display.

House Points Results:

🥇Wesley — 1st Place with 1400 points

🥈Luther — 2nd Place with 1316 points

🥉Carey — 3rd Place with 1276 points

Congratulations to Wesley House on taking out first place 👏🏻🎉

And a huge well done to all houses for a fantastic effort 💚❤️💛

KINDER 2027

Interest is already high at both Ulverstone and Burnie campuses for Kinder 2027!  If you are a current family with a little one for Kinder next year, we ask you to initiate the enrolment process as soon as possible please to secure your child’s spot, and to assist our Principals in determining vacancies for Kinder 2027.  Kinder children need to have turned 4 by 1 January in the year of commencement. Siblings are not automatically enrolled and application forms are required for all students.  In order for current families to receive a link to the application form, please lodge an 'Enrolment Enquiry Form' on the school’s website: https://www.leighland.tas.edu.au/enquiries 

If you are aware of any new families who are interested in enrolment at Leighland for next year for Kinder, or other year levels, please encourage them to complete the Enrolment Enquiry Form so that we can be in touch to organise a tour and information pack, or answer any questions they may have.

UNIFORM POLICY - EMAIL ADDRESS

It has been great to see some of our students wearing the new uniform items which were introduced from the start of this year.  A reminder that there is a 2 year transition period so the new items will not become compulsory until the start of the 2028 year.

To ensure feedback in regard to our Uniform Policy is followed up via the correct process, please email: uniform@leighland.tas.edu.au

All emails are then referred to our Uniform Committee for discussion at future meetings.  The Uniform Committee consists of our Principals, staff representatives, parent representatives from both campuses, and student leader representatives. The committee aim to meet once per term.

NAPLAN 2026

Years 3, 5, & 9 students will be sitting NAPLAN testing between 11 and 23 March 2026

The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.

Students will complete tests in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy. 

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.

NAPLAN has been held in March since 2023, having previously taken place in May. This change was made so school systems would have access to results earlier in the school year. These results can then be used to inform teaching and learning plans for the remainder of the year.

Why NAPLAN is conducted online

NAPLAN online provides a better assessment and more precise results. One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it uses tailored (or adaptive) testing. This means that students receive questions better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do. 

Online testing also allows us to provide a wide range of accessibility options to support students with disability to access NAPLAN. Feedback from students is that they find the online test more engaging. 

Please note that students in Year 3 complete the Writing Test on paper.
