50TH ANNIVERSARY FUNDRAISING GALA - RECAP

50 years of God’s faithfulness was prevalent throughout the evening of our 50th Anniversary Fundraising Gala held at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre.

It was a powerful reflection of the heart, history and hope of our community. Throughout the evening, hosted by Stuart Kent from Launceston Christian School, we were deeply moved by the stories and testimonies shared - from alumni, families, staff and supporters - each one echoing a common theme of gratitude, transformation and faith.

We heard reflections on lives shaped, opportunities created, and the enduring impact of a community that believes in walking alongside young people as they grow. These heartfelt words reminded us that this milestone isn’t just about looking back on 50 years, but about investing boldly in the future while continuing to remain Christian to the core.

From the establishment of our Ulverstone campus as the flagship school built by a passionate group of individuals who had a vision over 70 years ago and waited patiently for over 20 years, to our Burnie campus (formerly Wivenhoe Primary School and Romaine Park Christian Centre) entering the fold and growing from 30 students to almost 200, Leighland is a testament to how good our God is!

The evening was beautifully lit and set against a backdrop of green and gold. The centrepieces, artistic acrylic lion sculptures alternating with ornamented water vases, graced the tables adding to the brilliance of the night’s celebration. It was truly a Black Tie affair as guests enhanced the Gala in their elegant attire. Even Judah, our school’s lion mascot, knew the assignment and made his appearance, looking snazzy in a suit.

The musical performances showcased the gifts embedded into the DNA of Leighland Christian School’s current and former staff members and alumni. The instruments were captivating and the vocals smashing. The level of the performers was nothing short of professional. The cause, launching the Senior College Building Fund and establishing a Scholarship Program, were met with enthusiastic support as sponsors were recognised and the ticketed fundraiser sold out. We were admonished by the keynote speaker, Sam Burrows from Christian Education National, to keep the main thing the main thing (Christ-centred education) as we look forward to the next 50 years.

Together, we celebrated a founding vision, a milestone, a legacy - and took an important step forward into what’s next in the annals of Leighland Christian School.
