Cathy Freeman

I am going to share with you some information about a very famous Indigenous person, a runner called Cathy Freeman! 

Cathy Freeman is a Kuku Yalanji and Birri Gubba woman who is from Mackay, Queensland, Australia.  She is famous for being the first Aboriginal Australian woman to win an individual gold medal in the Olympics for running. Cathy’s personal best in a 400 metre sprint is 48.63 seconds! 

Cathy won gold running 400m at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and famously carried both the Aboriginal and Australian flags during her victory lap.
