Year 5/6 Cluster News
GLOW WEEK:
In week 9, students will be involved in various activities each day from 9:00am – 11:00am.
Your child will know the activity that they will take part in.
Some activities require permissions and so we ask that you check with your child about their activity and check your emails in case you are required to fill out a permission form.
Some activities require the students to be more physical and engage in activities in outdoor environments e.g. bike riding, hiking, fishing, walking to a Kindy, dance. We ask that they wear their sports uniform.
Those not involved in these physical activities will wear their required uniform for each school day as per normal.
Uniform:
Please ensure your child is in correct school uniform, which includes correct formal shoes on Monday and Wednesday and no additional jewellery. Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines located on the school’s website. There have been students wearing incorrect uniform, including socks and shoes and it would be appreciated if these could be rectified. (https://www.goldengrove.sa.edu.au/school-life/uniform/ )
SACSA events:
We will begin training for SACSA Netball, which will be held in Term 3, Week 4, followed by SACSA Basketball in Term 4.
If your child is interested in trying out for any of these events, please encourage them to practise their fitness, ball skills and teamwork skills at home.
Church Café:
Although we love the church café, we would appreciate if parents don’t buy drinks from the café just before the beginning of the school day. Milkshakes and hot chocolates are not allowed to be brought into classrooms, as it creates a hurdle for the start of the day.
HOME INQUIRY:
Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.
Mathematics: Working on general multiplication skills with the goal for automaticity of the facts up to x10
Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop:
We are beginning our unit on Report Writing where we explore the structure and features and language used to effectively write a factual report. These units will link closely to our next unit of inquiry ‘Sharing the Planet’, where we explore the features of envrionments connected to biomes and how living things adapt to surviving in these conditions.
Mathematics: Students will continue to build fluency in working with fractions and begin exploring the connections between fractions, decimals and percentages, strengthening their understanding of number relationships and how different representations can be used to describe the same value.
Inquiry:
We are beginning our ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit of inquiry, where we explore the features of envrionments connected to biomes and how living things adapt to surviving in these conditions. Students will explore the interconnectedness of ecosystems within biomes and how resources are used within these.
