Learning Enhancement

In line with the Principal’s News, I would like to share how proud I was to celebrate the achievements of the students who took part in the 2025 Mathematical Olympiad competition, at last week’s assembly. Harrison, Luke, Gusti, Kashyap and Rhys had shown capabilities not just with the maths curriculum, but also with problem solving, persistence, resilience, and co-operation in group work.
The Mathematical Olympiad is run by APSMO – the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads – a not-for-profit organisation affiliated with the Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools in the U.S. Over 100000 students from Australia, New Zealand, and internationally, take part. The program is designed to develop problem solving skills, to present more than one way to solve a problem, and to provide competition in solving problems within a time limit.
Through the year we worked together on picking worded problems apart, to analyse the questions and find accurate solutions. We discussed different approaches and worked both as a group, and individually to solve the practice problems. This prepared the students for the four competitions spread through Term 2 and 3.
It was a privilege to work with this small group, and to celebrate their achievements.
The ICAS results are available online for families whose children took part. With certificates and results available to the school soon, we look forward to celebrating their success at an assembly soon.
We are half way through Term 4, and with Semester 2 reports being prepared, it is a great time to celebrate the academic, social and personal achievements of all students.
