SAPSASA Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 4th March, twelve students from years 4-6 attended the SAPSASA Swimming Carnival at Norwood Pool. Magill School competed in the Torrens River division against other schools in our district. For our year 4 students, it was the first time they had been able to represent the school in SAPSASA sport.

Our students competed in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 100m open freestyle events. All of our students gave their best efforts with many coming away with first, second or third place ribbons. Emilie came 3rd place in backstroke and 3rd place in butterfly. Maddy S came 1st in butterfly and 1st in backstroke. Ottis came 2nd place in breaststroke, 2nd place in the 100m open boys freestyle and 1st place in butterfly and Isabella came 2nd in breaststroke. As Maddy and Ottis came 1st place in their races, they will now represent Torrens River at the upcoming State Championships at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Good luck to Maddy and Ottis.

While we didn’t take a huge team to the swimming carnival, the camaraderie between the students was fantastic. The way they supported and cheered for each other, no matter the result, and showed genuine joy for others when they were successful, was great to see. I am very proud of all our students' efforts on the day. It takes a lot of courage to put your hand up and want to compete against the best swimmers in our district.

It was nice to have so many parents and families attend and support our students. A big thank you to Sarah Miers and Renee Phillips for helping out on the day. Without this support, it is very difficult for these events to take place.
