Leadership Report

As we move further into the term, it has been wonderful to see the positive rhythm of learning and community life well established across the school. Classrooms have settled into their routines, with students building strong relationships with their new classmates and teachers. Our school values continue to underpin the way we work and learn together, and it is always a highlight to see these values in action. We love celebrating students who demonstrate these behaviours at assemblies through our fortnightly awards and Magill Merit awards.

Magill Merits can be awarded by any teacher at different times throughout the week. Students place their Merit into the collection container, giving them the opportunity to be randomly drawn and recognised at assembly. These celebrations help reinforce the positive behaviours and attitudes that make our school community such a supportive place for learning.

As part of the developing rhythm of school life, our intervention programs are now up and running. These small group sessions provide students with additional opportunities to practise specific skills and build confidence in targeted areas. Our Literacy intervention groups focus on strengthening reading and spelling skills, while Maths intervention groups concentrate on place value and key number concepts. We also run What’s the Buzz? sessions to support students in developing social and emotional awareness, and our Positive Play program helps students build problem-solving skills during playtime. These programs play an important role in ensuring students receive the support they need to thrive both academically and socially.

Next week, our Year 3 and Year 5 students will take part in the NAPLAN assessments alongside students across Australia. These tests provide a snapshot of student achievement in literacy and numeracy and help schools understand how students are progressing over time. The information gathered assists us in tracking how our school is going and in making informed adjustments to teaching and learning programs where needed. While NAPLAN is a useful tool, it is just one measure of student learning. We encourage families to help students approach the tests calmly and confidently, without adding unnecessary pressure or stress. The most important thing is that students try their best.

Earlier this week, Magill School students proudly represented our school at the first School Sports event for the term, the Torrens River District Carnival held at Norwood Pool. Our students demonstrated great effort, teamwork and sportsmanship, and we congratulate them on their achievements. You can read more about this event elsewhere in the newsletter.

Finally, we hope everyone enjoys the long weekend ahead. The forecast promises beautiful weather, and we hope it provides a chance for families to relax, recharge and spend time together—whatever you choose to do.

Warm regards,
